J’Something shares his winning recipe
Joao Da Fonseca’s alias J’Something has become a household name, both as lead singer of South Africa’s house music super-group Mi Casa, and as the host of his own much-loved reality show Something’s Cooking.
In the show, he invites South Africa into his kitchen to get a taste of his special brand of Portuguese-South-African fusion cuisine, and shares his passion for homemade food. The entire series launched recently on Showmax, so now’s your chance to binge on J’s beautiful, mouthwatering home-cooked meals.
What’s cooking for J’Something these days?
In April this year, J opened his own restaurant at Time Square in Pretoria, called Something’s Cooking by J. You can follow the restaurant on Instagram (@somethingscookingbyj) to get drool-worthy snapshots of the food they’re serving up, from Hugh Masekela’s favourite veggie paella to the show-stopping deep-fried mac-and-cheese.
And J’Something’s got another iron in the fire. He was recently announced as one of the judges on M-Net’s upcoming brand-new reality show My Kitchen Rules SA, based on the Australian version of the show that aired earlier this year.
In My Kitchen Rules SA, 12 pairs of home cooks will host judges in their homes to sample their lovingly prepared meals, with a big cash prize on offer to the winning pair. It’s something like Come Dine With Me meets Masterchef, but with the warm, passionate superstar J’Something as one of the judges.
The auditions for entries took place in major SA cities last week, and now there’s nothing to do except wait … and get acquainted with J’Something’s kitchen flair in Something’s Cooking on Showmax.
