Life with Kelly Khumalo Season 3 episode 4: I’ve received a couple of death threats
In Life With Kelly Khumalo Season 3 episode 4, Kelly reveals that safety is one of the things she doesn’t compromise on. While she’s become a household name and is celebrated a lot in the country, the singer has also attracted a lot of people who despise her. Some people have been very vocal about not liking her, and she has even received some death threats.
As a musician, Kelly is expected to show up at events and performances and she can never be too sure about people’s real intentions for attending. So, she’s decided to get a security team to minimise exposure to danger. The mother of two explained that this was triggered by the incident that led to her late boyfriend’s tragic passing eight years ago.

Kelly’s life threatened by strangers
“Security has been important to me since 2014. How Thingo’s father got murdered is still a mystery to me,” she said on the reality show. She added: “And I’ve received a couple of death threats.” Kelly also revealed that she received death threats two days before her last gig in KwaZulu-Natal. “So, security for me is literally everything, hence I have my CPO (Close Private Officer). CPOs are officers of the law, just private ones so they can arrest you when they have to.”
Her manager, Kgothatso, also believes that having security makes it easier for Kelly to roam around freely and do what is expected from her.
“With having the police there kinda eases a bit of tension in a sense because we regard Kelly as a national asset because of the kind of person she is and the value she has in the music industry.” Having security also saves Kgothatso a lot of time and work because it means Kelly will be safe and will show up without having to worry about anything except her performance.
Is the law failing Kelly?
In one of her recent TV interviews with a news broadcaster, Kelly shared that her family has also been threatened “multiple times” and expressed her disappointment in the law because there hasn’t been any sort of protection for her or her loved ones. The award-winning singer has also been bullied on social media platforms, with some people going as far as calling for her to be cancelled.
