Meet the sassy sangomas of Izangoma Zodumo
Izangoma Zodumo follows the lives of two unconventional traditional healers, who juggle their newfound gifts with their “larger than life” social lives, relationships and professional careers.
Prudence Thandiwe “Ngwe” Magagula
Ngwe is a 24-year-old sangoma and mother of one. She is also a professional nurse with a busy household and up to 10 initiates at a time.
Her home is constantly filled with numerous clients seeking help, and she’s also taken two brothers under her wing.

A feisty sangoma
Although she may be kind, Ngwe has a strong personality and is a firm decision-maker. She easily switches from the sweet, gentle nurse to a feisty spiritual empress when necessary. Ngwe is described as strict when it comes to her family and initiates, but deep down, she is a kind and dependable woman.
Makgotso “Maweni” Makopo
Not only is Maweni a sangoma, but she is also a mother of three boys with a successful event planning business.
Just like Ngwe, Maweni is not your typical sangoma – she is the life of the party, straightforward and wears her heart on her sleeve.

Maweni answered her calling in 2016 after her son became ill. Her journey to being a sangoma hasn’t been easy but she’s taken it all in her stride.
Maweni’s future looked promising when she was a teen, and she attended great private schools, but life had other plans for her – she had all three of her babies when she was still young with three different fathers.
Dark times
What is a bit disturbing about Maweni is that she was once a proud practitioner of dark magic, which she used to avenge harm done to her clients.
However, through the years, she’s learned valuable lessons about this practice and has since stopped using black magic to solve problems. She also stopped after realising the heavy burden she carried because of the damage and sorrow she created by dealing with dark magic.
A changed sangoma
Maweni’s ambitions are to rebuild her consultations as a safe space for her clients. She’s also focused on taking her events planning company to the next level while in search of pure, genuine love.
