The Real Housewives of Durban Season 2: Where else you’ve seen Sorisha Naidoo
From starring in TV shows to running a thriving skincare business, it seems there’s nothing that Sorisha Naidoo can’t do.
If The Real Housewives of Durban castmate Sorisha Naidoo seems familiar, that’s because you’ve seen her on TV before or you’ve probably heard her voice on the radio.
Before Sorisha appeared in the hit reality show The Real Housewives of Durban, she was an established actress, best known for roles as doctor Shanti Maharaj in the drama series Home Affairs in 2005 and as ambitious newspaper editor Nadia Narain in soapie Scandal! between 2008 and 2010. Now, the 45-year-old entrepreneur and philanthropist runs a lifestyle brand called SSBO and imports luxury skincare products. She also owns a chain of skincare clinics around KwaZulu-Natal.
When asked why she returned for another season of The Real Housewives of Durban, Sorisha explains that she’s formed incredible friendships with the cast. “The ladies and I continue to be friends on and off the set. So I just thought it would be a great idea to come back and continue to share the love,” says Sorisha, before adding, “I also want to take the lessons I’ve learned in the previous season into this new one. I want to be more tolerant, more patient, and to speak my mind more in this season because I tend not to do that.”
Read on to find out more about Sorisha’s career in showbiz.
Beautiful beginnings
Sorisha has a history in the beauty pageant world and like many beauty queens, she’s poised and exudes charisma. After graduating from Rhodes University with a degree in journalism in 2001, Sorisha won Miss India SA in 2002 and she was a finalist in the Miss India World pageant in the same year.
The media maven
After her acting stints, Sorisha moved on to make her name on radio. She hosted several shows between 2002 and 2006 at East Coast Radio, before filling the lunchtime slot on 94.7 Highveld Stereo. Between her radio work and acting, Sorisha was also a field presenter on variety show Eastern Mosaic in 2006.
In the pilot episode of The Real Housewives of Durban, Sorisha reveals that after she met her billionaire businessman husband Vivian Reddy at a casino opening, he would call her on her radio hosting days, and he would try to convince her to go out with him on brunch dates. “I remember, he used to call me when I DJed at a local radio station on a hotline. And I remember asking him: How did you get my cell phone number? As only management had the number. He simply said: ‘I have my ways’,” recalls Sorisha.
Today, they have two kids, Saihil (13) and Kalina (11). “Being a mom is a full-time job, but (being a wife to) Vivian is on a whole new level of what work should and should not be as a wife,” says Sorisha, who makes sure that her husband eats breakfast, lunch, and supper.
Sorisha the reality star
The Real Housewives of Durban isn’t Sorisha’s first stint in reality shows either. She was cast in Divas of Jozi in 2016, which followed six women in the City of Gold as they formed friendships and grew their business portfolios. Just like in The Real Housewives of Durban, Sorisha was the peaceful, caring, and fun friend, and the circle could turn to her for advice and a laugh.
