Unmarried S1 (Nigeria)
This local production from Africa Magic is about three women – Nengi (Venita Akpofure), Funbi (Enado Odigie) and Kamsi (Folu Storms) – who are inseparable friends, who grew up in the same neighbourhood. While they’ve gone onto have very different lives, they still face similar challenges: love, career, relationships and more.
What binds them is circumstance: they’re building their lives in Lagos, and that comes with all the struggles and cultural demands that young Nigerian women face. From expectations of marriage and families that can’t seem to stop interfering, to coping with infidelity and divorce, and dealing with the discrimination that women often face in the workplace.
Through it all, these three friends stick together.
According to Africa Magic channel director Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu: “Reality-TV shows are extremely popular because they showcase real people experiencing real-life circumstances and situations, thus connecting with viewers and fans on a more personal and relatable level. Following the success of Big Brother Naija, Date My Family, Dr Laser, Confessions and Unmarried have been curated to address and confront real-life issues from the African perspective.”
All of these shows are available to stream on Showmax.
Season 1 of Unmarried has landed, with new episodes weekly, straight after they air on Africa Magic.
