Unmarried S3, episode 8: Seeds of doubt
Dear Unmarried enthusiasts, we think it is time we start a support group because this episode certainly has us in our feelings.
As the story continues to unfold, we are all the more invested in the oh-so-complex lives of Kamsi, Nengi, and Funbi.
Like we always say, wahala for who no dey watch Unmarried
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Nengi’s impending love triangle
We all know that Nengi is the queen of love triangles. First, it was Lami and Efe, and now it looks like it’s Bode and Bosa.
Remember Bosa? Nengi’s friend who provided a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear after the embarrassing incident with Bode’s wife? The same one who advised Nengi to give Bode another chance? Apparently, he has a crush on Nengi!
Bosa chauffeurs Nengi home after she sprained her ankle while showing him a property. He keeps her company and engages Tari in conversation when out of nowhere, Tari asks Bosa if he likes Nengi. He admits that he has always had a crush on her but she had never really been available. You should have seen the jealousy on Bode’s face when he walked in on Bosa holding Nengi’s foot! Now we are so curious about how this will play out.
Meanwhile, Nengi hosts Kamsi and Funbi to a girls hangout at her house. She informs them that Bode wants her to meet his kids as soon as possible but they both had reservations about it and so did Tari.
Following her conversation with her friends and her sister, Nengi expresses her doubts and concern to Bode who allays her fears and sets up a meeting with his children.
Suffice to say it ends in another disaster with his kids calling her a bad person for making their mother cry and telling her to stay away from their father.
Funbi is on to Iya Funbi
You will recall that Ali found out about Iya Funbi’s lie and is currently blackmailing her into working with him to ensure that Funbi marries him.
After returning from the girl’s hangout at Nengi’s place, Funbi ponders her conversation with Kamsi, who asked about the health of her mother. Kamsi is concerned about the pain that comes with cancer and how Iya Funbi is holding up as she had a distant relative who suffered the same ailment.
Funbi starts to really observe Iya Funbi and ask about her wellbeing. She inquires about any pain or symptoms but Iya Funbi claims she is okay.
Funbi approaches Ali with her suspicions and tells him of her desire to obtain a second opinion but he shoots down all her suspicions and assures her that her mother is keeping a positive mindset to beat cancer but Funbi is still not convinced.
Is it just us or has Funbi and Ali’s relationship been rather calm lately? We wonder what Ali has up his sleeve.
Though he hasn’t been as physically abusive, he seizes the slightest opportunity to remind her of her past and Funbi is clearly over it.
We couldn’t help but cheer when she told him off after he accused her of being a whore because she ran into an old friend at lunch. It was such a proud moment!
Iya Funbi, who is concerned about the prospect of losing the benefits of an in-law like Ali, reminds Funbi that she is getting older and can’t financially afford to leave Ali. Taking her mother’s advice, Funbi apologises to Ali.
Lota gives in
Kamsi no doubt has a lot on her plate.
Between asking Lota for a divorce and the uncertainty of life after a divorce, Kamsi is juggling so much and the doubts have started to set in.
At the girls’ hangout, both Nengi and Funbi ask her if she is sure about getting a divorce considering that her marriage is barely two years old. They also inquire if the divorce would be in the best interests of her children.
She reiterates that the marriage is over because they are not on the same paths anymore and Lota has consistently refused to grow.
Kamsi confides in Somto that she cannot afford to get a new apartment and move out after Lota stole from their joint account. Somto encourages her to save up and reassures her that she is proud of her for taking the difficult decision to leave Lota.
No sooner had Somto mentioned Lota than he shows up and accuses her of destroying his marriage. They soon engage in a heated exchange, which frankly leaves us shook.
In a surprising turn of events, Lota agrees to proceed with the divorce and pledges to help and support Kamsi through any processes that may be required.
Sounds like she is finally getting what she wants, but Kamsi is terribly sad.
We understand that breaking up must be hard but what we don’t understand is why Kamsi is at Funbi’s house discussing her situation with Ali and Iya Funbi.
Trust Iya Funbi to give one of her hot takes. She reminds Kamsi that she is old and advises her to go and fix her relationship with her husband. Talk about unsolicited advice.
Will Funbi catch her mother in her lie? Will Nengi get along with Bode’s kids? Is Bosa going to become a contender for Nengi’s heart? Will Kamsi finally go through with the divorce?
