Gallery: The Godfather of Harlem Screening
It was an evening of celebration filled with South African acting greats and, of course, the man of the moment, Forest Whitaker.
The Godfather of Harlem screening was an exclusive preview of Episodes 5 and 6 of the series, hosted at the iconic Market Theatre in the heart of Newtown, Johannesburg.
It was a star-studded event that saw the likes of Jeffrey Mofokeng, Pamela Nomvete, Sophie Ndaba and Celeste Ntuli grace the red carpet alongside Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, who is currently in South Africa for The Godfather of Harlem press tour.
So what is the series about?
The Godfather of Harlem is about infamous 1960s crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) who returns from Alcatraz to find the neighbourhood he once ruled in a shambles. With the streets now ruled by the Italian mob, Bumpy forms an unlikely alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X to regain his position as the Godfather of Harlem.

The first few episodes of Godfather of Harlem are currently streaming on Showmax, with a new episode landing weekly on Tuesdays.
