Green Book (2018)
The 2019 Academy Award-winning Best Picture movie isn’t for kids despite the 13 age restriction – there’s violence, there’s racism, there’s stuff that only adults will understand.
As good as Viggo Mortensen is as proudly Italian-American enforcer Tony Lip, Mahershala Ali steals every scene in this biographical drama as musician Dr Donald Shirley, who hires Tony as a driver- bodyguard while touring the US Deep South during the 60s.
The Green Book (The Negro Motorist Green Book) was an official guide for African-Americans to get around the racist US as safely as possible, listing restaurants, hotels and other places that were “African-American-friendly”. As the story progresses, Tony learns the peaceful way that what he knows about African-Americans is wrong.
