I Don’t Know How She Does It (2011)
Sarah Jessica Parker takes centre stage as busybody Kate Reddy in 2011 comedy movie I Don’t Know How She Does It. Wanna know how? Stream it on Showmax.
It’s based on Judith Pearson’s 2002 book of the same name and follows Kate, who is a finance executive, family breadwinner, wife, mom, daughter and sister. She’s got everything in order and not a hair is out of place.
But there’s a downside to her “perfect” world: Kate doesn’t have a minute to herself. If she isn’t physically doing something, her mind is at work. We get this non-stop update both through Kate’s inner voice, as well as her freezing scenes and talking directly to the camera as she struggles along.
“In the end, the film’s juggling act resolution may be a little difficult to imagine maintaining. But at least Kate states clearly that if something’s going to go, it won’t be hubby and the kids. And that’s an encouraging thematic shift well worth applauding,” writes PluggedIn.com’s Bob Hoose.
