Idris Elba shows and movies to stream right now
When People Magazine gave London-born Idris Elba the title of the Sexiest Man Alive two years ago, it was only the third time in 32 years that the magazine had honoured a man of colour – Dwayne Johnson won in 2016 and Denzel Washington took the title 10 years prior.
He’s also made headlines recently by taking successfully to DJing, rapping and singing, because clearly there’s nothing this man can’t do.
Here are the series and movies he stars in, available to stream on Showmax whenever you need a little dose of sexy.
The Wire S1-5

In HBO’s critically acclaimed crime drama, rated as #6 on IMDB’s Top TV list, Idris Elba plays Russel “Stringer” Bell, a drug kingpin’s second-in-command who is as genteel as he is ruthless. He enforces his boss’s will, whether it’s in demoting members of the rank and file who step out of line, or strengthening their operation by cutting deals with rival drug lords.
But Stringer’s not like the rest of Avon Barksdale’s crew. He wants to bring the organisation above board by putting the profits into legitimate business investments, and he wields a hefty influence in Baltimore through his political connections, all of whom he keeps sweet by greasing palms. And he doesn’t take opposition, even if it comes from Barksdale himself, lying down.
The full boxset of The Wire is on Showmax.
Molly’s Game (2017)

Directed and written by Aaron Sorkin, this is the story of Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), the Olympic skier who ran a high-stakes poker game that drew the attention of the FBI when the Russian mob joined in.
She kept this up for a decade before being arrested, and turned to her only ally for help: her criminal defence attorney, played by Idris Elba. He was nominated for a host of awards for his role, including a Black Reel Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2018.
