Kyallo Kulture episode 1 recap: A trip down memory lane
Kyallo Kulture Episode 1 kicks off with the “day in the life” morning routines of each sister. Mercy gets up at 6am and goes for a ride on her favourite horse, North Island. She comes home to a welcome cup of coffee, handed to her by a smartly dressed servant, before sitting down to breakfast with her friend Jackie.
We then meet Gloria, the youngest of the three sisters. We follow her as she walks her dog Lulu every morning before heading out to uni, where she hangs with her girls, chatting, laughing, and studying. She’s described as the sweetest of the three sisters.
Kyallo Kulture episode 1 trailer
Betty, the eldest of the three sisters, wakes at 7am and does what most of us do: she goes straight to Instagram! She always kicks off her day with a run on the treadmill, followed up by a solid workout, and rounded off with yoga. Then she glams up to face the day—bold, confident and ready for anything!
She heads straight to Gloria’s apartment, which is very basic and a far cry from the luxury of Mercy’s pad. Still, Betty thinks Gloria is spoiled, and has never had to rough it the way she did. So she decides to take baby sis on a trip down memory lane.
First stop: Kahawa West, where Betty and Mercy grew up. Because Gloria was only born much later, she doesn’t really understand estate life.
We’re treated to some old-school photos of the family—their dad was retired from the army, so the family relied on their mother’s meagre civil servant salary. This prompts Betty to talk about how she’s motivated by not wanting her kids to experience the poverty she did.
As for Mercy, there’s drama brewing… the beef between her and Betty goes back to NYE, when Mercy left her sister at the club, alone, newly single, and without a phone. As far as Betty is concerned, Mercy has some apologising to do.
The episode ends with Betty cooking nyonyi for Gloria. It’s been years since she’s cooked anything, but she wants to serve up some good old fashioned food to her spoiled sister. How does it go down? Gloria admits she’ll probably never eat nyonyi again!
We can’t wait to catch up with Betty, Mercy and Gloria next week. It looks like there’s plenty of sister-drama to come! Add Kyallo Kulture to your Showmax watchlist today so that you don’t miss a moment.
