Living the Dream, Seasons 1-2: Somizi is living his best life

If you’re a fan of celebrity culture, you’ll know very well that some famous people aren’t comfortable with the idea of being too real. They tend to show only the good side of their lives and fame, leaving out the not-so-glitzy parts.

Watch: Living the Dream with Somizi Season 5, first on Showmax from 4 May 2022

This makes it a little difficult for fans to relate to them. But then there are celebrities like Somizi Mhlongo, who aren’t afraid to show fans both the good and the bad times. And we absolutely love him for it.

If you’ve watched his reality show Living the Dream, which is currently streaming on Showmax, you know exactly what we’re talking about – he doesn’t hold back and we’re not complaining.

Staying power

If you switch on your TV or your radio, chances are you’ll see his face or hear his voice. That’s because the media personality is dominating the entertainment industry, which he’s been a part of for more than two decades.

While some people only get a few years of fame, Somizi, whose jobs include a hosting gig on Metro FM and acting as a judge on South African Idols, has demonstrated staying power. It hasn’t been an easy journey, and he knows all about being down and out. But you can’t not be inspired by his ability to bounce back stronger and wiser than ever.

A taste for the finer things in life

Whether it’s shoes, cars or bags, Somizi sure does have a taste for the finer things in life. While some of us can only dream of owning even just one Louis Vuitton bag, Somizi probably has more of these expensive bags than he cares to remember.

Just one look at his Instagram page and you’ll see that the star doesn’t compromise when it comes to quality.

Giving back

Living your best life doesn’t just refer to material things, but it’s also about helping those who are less fortunate. And guess what? Somizi has a heart for the homeless. We’re so used to seeing him in his celebrity role that we were really touched after watching an episode where he bought food for the homeless.

We don’t want to spoil it for you, but we just wanted you to see that the show is not just about the star flashing his possessions, but it’s also about showing his softer side.

A happy ending

The radio and TV personality has been very open about his journey. This includes details about bad financial decisions, broken friendships and his family life. The father of one took being open a step further by releasing a book about his life.

Explaining his decision to write a book, the V-Entertainment host explained on Real Talk with Anele: “I’ve always been an open book but I felt let me document something for other people who are living in my time, but also people that are gonna be there when I’m gone, but they will need this story to wake them up or to get them up.”

He added that he really needed to share his story because it’s beautiful. “When they read about the hard times, those hard time for me were beautiful for me because I knew the ending was going to be a happy ending.” And indeed, things have turned out great for him. On the show, you’ll see his amazing home, lavish cars and also get to follow him around as he pursues his dreams.
