Love Friends? Then these shows need to be on your binge-watch list
So you’ve been a fan of Friends from day one, and even though the comedy series has been off air for the past fifteen years, you’ve religiously binge-watched Season 1-10 of each episode on Showmax. And now, you probably have no clue what to watch next. Well, fret not, here are some shows to fill that Friends void you’ve been feeling.
The Bold Type
This has all the tight friendships of the women in Friends, but younger, edgier and with much better clothes. The Bold Type follows three girlfriends who juggle their careers, romantic interests and the daily struggles of trying to make it in the world of magazines in New York. It’s more than frothy comedy though: each episode tackles a serious issue, from breast cancer to #MeToo. Watch it now »
Sex and the City
If nostalgia is your thing, look no further. Another iconic New York show, SATC revolutionised TV and changed the way women are portrayed. Writer Carrie Bradshaw and her three best friends take us through the tumultuous dating scene in the Big Apple.

Veep
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is brilliant in this long-running comedy. US Vice President Selina Meyer has a non-existent relationship with the President and despises being second-in-command – but luckily she’s got the backing of her loyal staffers Amy and Gary who always offer a shoulder to lean on whenever she needs it the most. The full boxset of S1-7 is now on Showmax. Watch now »
Younger
Liza may be 40, but she can pass for 26 – so she fudges her CV a bit and gets the publishing job of her dreams based on a little white lie. The lie also helps her land the tattooed hottie from the bar. That’s where Younger kicks off, and the story just gets better from there. It’s an addictive dramedy with a great cast and characters you’ll really get to care about. And it’s only available to watch on Showmax. Watch now »
Barry
This is a darker show than Friends ever tried to be, but it’s brilliantly witty and funny, and features the considerable acting talents of Bill Hader. A depressed hitman has a career epiphany when he discovers the intoxicating world of LA theatre acting. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to just walk away from the criminal underworld. Watch now »
Silicon Valley
This wacky, off-beat comedy follows a tech startup and the socially awkward geeks who try to make it work. In today’s high-tech gold rush, these geeks are the most qualified to strike success, but while they’re brilliant behind a keyboard, they’re not so great with human interactions. The sixth and final season is coming soon, so binge to catch up now. Watch now »
A Million Little Things
A tragic death shakes up a group of friends who realise that that they shouldn’t take their own lives for granted. Each of them then decides to live a fuller and more meaningful life. Watch now »
