Nigerian Idol S7: All the exciting moments from the season finale

It was the Nigerian Idol Season 7 finale this past Sunday, and what a fitting end to a pretty amazing season.

The show featured a tonne of surprises, starting with a performance that featured the Top 12 contestants, judges Obi Asika, Simi and D’banj, and even the host, IK Osakioduwa.

Indeed, the Nigerian Idol S7 finale was nothing but good vibes all around and we bring you all the highlights from the show.

This is the greatest show

If there is anything we’ve learned from this season, it is that Nigerian Idol contestants will always deliver a spectacular opening performance.

Performing The Greatest Show from the hit movie The Greatest Showman, the Top 12 contestants joined the judges and host IK to deliver a stellar performance that left us screaming along. Who knew that IK could hit those notes? We could have sworn that Obi Asika was a shy one but we can’t be the only ones who saw that intro!

Also performing the soundtrack A Million Dreams from the same movie, Progress and Zadok treated the audience to a spectacular duet that left us in awe of the talent on this season’s show. These two have sure come a long way and we absolutely love to see it.

D’banj hits the stage

D’banj isn’t called the King of Entertainer for nothing, and he proved yet again that he is indeed worthy of the title.

The Koko Master gave us a medley of some of his best hits including Emergency and Oliver Twist, along with some of his signature moves on the finale show. Following his performance, host IK Osakioduwa asked about his experience on the show and he responded saying:

“It’s been an amazing 12 weeks, we’ve come this far without any incident so we must thank God. I am also honoured to have watched these amazing talents grow.”

We’ll sure miss D’banj on our screens.

The emotional moment Zadok’s mom got on stage

Following Zadok’s classic first performance of the night, host IK brought his mum on stage and we must admit that one or two thug tears were shed.

Responding to IK’s question on how she feels about her son being on the show, she simply said, “I’m proud of him, God gave him as a gift to me and the whole world.”

She went further and said a prayer for him because is an African parent really African if they don’t pray for you?

It was a super touching moment and we absolutely were glad to share in the moment.

Papa P was left speechless

At the finale show, there were so many proud parents in the building and it was particularly beautiful to watch the exchange between Pimp P and Papa P.

Following Progress’ first performance of the evening, host IK brought Progress’ father on stage to ask him how he felt seeing his son performing on the Idol stage. Papa Progress, who was at first short of words, eventually said:

“In fact, it is like I’m dreaming. When I gave him the name, I said anywhere you go, this name will follow you and I’m happy he is doing so well.”

We guess it’s safe to say that we now know for certain why Progress keeps progressing.

Simi performs Duduke

Duduke was one of the biggest songs of 2020 and even had a viral challenge that saw mothers celebrating their children.

The hit single was also translated into a French version because the joy that the song brings transcends languages and should be felt by every and anyone. It was therefore only fitting that judge Simi perform Duduke at the Nigerian Idol finale and she sure did it with the utmost finesse.

Following her superb performance, IK asked about her experience selecting and nurturing the talents on the show and she simply said, “I’m just so proud to see how far they have come and to be a part of this experience because it takes a tonne of bravery to do what they have done. I’m proud to have experienced you and I wish you so much greatness in your present and future.”

The highlight of this exchange, however, was when IK said, “I can listen to Simi talk forever, so soft-spoken, I can’t imagine her shouting” to which she responded saying “don’t let me fool you.”

Such banter.

When Kingdom and the Top 10 took us to church

The Top 10 contestants of Season 7 alongside Season 6 winner, Kingdom, delivered an excellent performance that had us lifting holy hands.

Performing My Father’s Got It All, an original song by Kingdom, the group thoroughly thrilled us with their delivery. We can confidently say they took us to church and back and we loved every bit of it.

Pheelz performs hit single Finesse

Pheelz’s hit single took the internet by storm and has since had us in a chokehold because the catchy tune is a whole mood.

The hit single, which was released in early 2022, is no doubt an anthem as the audience couldn’t help but jam along to Pheelz’s performance.

In all, it was pure vibes on vibes and we were here for all of it.

And the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 7 is … Progress!

When Progress and Zadok were named as the Top 2 finalists, we knew that it would be a close call in every sense.

Both men were fierce contenders with a passion for their art and the ability to kill every performance. They both put in the work throughout the competition and delivered some of the most amazing performances yet.

Though the competition was stiff, Progress emerged as the winner with Zadok as the first runner up and the tears of joy from Progress were heartwarming. He went on to sing his victory song amid tears and was joined on stage by the other contestants.

Congratulations are certainly in order for these two men and we can’t wait to see all of the amazing things they achieve in the not-so-distant future.
