Our fave moments of Gomora so far
Gomora has been on fire! After disappearing from screens shortly after lockdown started because they couldn’t continue filming (along with every other show in SA), the brand-new Mzansi telenovela has been nothing short of entertaining since returning on Monday, 25 May.
Here’s a peek at just three of the things you might’ve missed since its return. Binge the first 25 episodes on Showmax now, then watch new episodes every 24 hours, the day after they air on Mzansi Magic.
Burying secrets
Mam’Sonto stands by silently as the detective breaks the news to her daughter Thathi that the man they arrested for hijacking and murdering Thathi’s husband in Episode 1 is dead.
Okay, so people die in hospital daily – nothing strange about that. We’re not even surprised that Mam’Sonto was the person to kill the hijacker. It’s how cold she is, cruelly and callously listening to her daughter being told that the only hope she had to get answers about her husband’s death has been snuffed out.
There’s not even a hint of remorse or a tear. Just a vicious monster standing beside her daughter, making sure that the real secret doesn’t come out: that the dead hijacker was one of her employees. How can a mother be so cruel?
Sister strife
Thathi’s life has fallen apart. Her husband has been murdered. His millions were a lie. She’s lost her mansion and flashy lifestyle in Jozi’s northern suburbs. She and her kids are back in eKasi living with her mom. So the last thing Thathi needs is another feud with her sister Pretty (Siyasanga Papu).
But Pretty has been gunning for her since Thathi moved home and we get to see it visibly as tensions boil over in Episode 22 when Thathi questions her sister about missing jewellery.
“Where are my crystal earrings? Pretty, I know you’re always going through my jewellery box. Where do you think you got that gold watch? Remember I gave it to you because you were sulking?” said a visibly irritated Thathi.
Sure, Pretty might not have taken the earrings, but this is the perfect opportunity to put “high and mighty” Thathi in her place.
Clapping back, Pretty then said: “You know what? If you want your watch back, you can have it if you’re going to remind me every day.”
Instead of the sisters supporting each other during their struggles, their fight is only going to get worse.
Not-so-doting dad
It’s heartwarming to see how soft and worried and concerned Melusi is in Episode 24. His wife comes downstairs and instantly knows something is up.
“You know you have to tell me what’s bothering you,” says Gladys (Thembi Seete).
“Do you think he’s still a… (criminal),” replies Melusi, unable to say the words.
He tells Gladys that he has seen Ntokozo with a woman he doesn’t think is right for his son, knowing full well that Mazet has criminal connections.
“She’s not the type of girl I want Ntokozo to be involved with. She is a troublemaker.” If only Melusi knew how much trouble his son is in already.
