The Real Housewives of Durban Season 2: Returning cast members’ advice to new queens

The Real Housewives of Durban Season 1 served up some unforgettable moments. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, always jaw-dropping – the ladies never stopped surprising us viewers. In Season 2, we look forward to a mix of new and familiar faces to bring the spice.

Jojo, Londie and Thobile are about to tread on uncharted territory. The announcement of their debut on The Real Housewives of Durban was met with great excitement by fans and of course, the likes of Nonku, Sorisha, Annie and LaConco who return for the new season.

The returning cast members had their fair share of great and not-so-great moments in Season 1. So they know just what advice the new ladies will need to handle being on the show. Here’s what they had to say to the new Housewives.

Eish! I’ll be honest, Kuya shisa la! (It’s hot here.)

The ladies must just develop a thick skin. We’ve all had our moments where we got burned, so when their turn comes they must just not let it get to them. But most importantly, I’d advise them to really do some introspection and know exactly who they are and if they get that right, the opinions of others will not shake them.

My advice to them is to always remain authentic. Whether you are on TV or not, people will always see through you. What you say and what you do will always be scrutinized and when it is not authentic, the public will call you out.

There’s a new cast member that I feel is trying so hard to be nice and there is just no need. I saw through that, and she explained that the reason she’s like that is because she’s heard certain things about her that have made her become overly polite. Which says to me that she is allowing the opinions of people to influence her character and how she behaves. She’s human – there’s no need to be nice all the time.

So the new cast members must just focus on their storyline, have a vision and remain authentic to themselves. I’d also like to add that they should also have fun and to not take any of the incidents that happen in the episodes to heart.

As echoed by the other ladies, the best thing to do is to be real, you know?

Never try to be something you’re not all in the name of impressing the public. You may even realise that what you’re doing the public does not like – such actions can really turn negative for you. So just remain true to who you are and when you are faced with difficult situations in the show, at least you know that you can stand by your word and authenticity.

Be calm. If there is a situation that may seem problematic, weigh the situation first, think carefully about what you’re going to say then proceed to handle the situation the way you see fit.
