Roast House episode 2: The most brutal jokes from the roast of Sanaipei Tande
Sanaipei Tande, the multi-talented singer and actress who plays the ruthless Nana Tandala in Kina is the latest Kenyan celebrity to be on the receiving end of jokes from roastmasters in episode 2 of the new comedy show Roast House, now streaming on Showmax
But how do you roast one of Kenya’s most loved celebrities? “Everyone loves her. She has no enemies, and we didn’t know if we’d be courting trouble with her fans but it turned out to be one of the best because she was such a sport with a great sense of humour,” Doug Mutai, co-founder of Stand-Up Collective and one of the roastmasters said.
From Maina Kageni’s marriage proposal to her music career to her acting, nothing was off limits in this roast of Sanaipei Tande. See below 10 of the most brutal roasts from Roast House episode 2.

On being single
“Sanaipei fell in love with music, that’s why she’s still single.” – Justine Wanda
On her acting skills
“I can’t come up here and say her music is trash. You all know that’s a lie. That’s like saying her acting is good.” – John Ribia

On her getting a role on Kina
“She was the obvious casting choice when the casting directors were going through the list of Kenyan actresses… ‘we want someone who’s middle-aged and cheap.’ – John Ribia
On her career
“I’m doing my jokes quickly today because I’ve been told that Sanaa might disappear into irrelevance.” – George Waweru
“Sanaipei actually means ‘the most successful woman in Maasailand’. Tande means ‘who did not live up to expectations.’ – George Waweru
“Sanaa is only here because Janet Mbugua and Caroline Mutoko have actual careers to work on.” – George Waweru

On being multi-talented
“Singer-songwriter, radio host, karaoke host, voice artist… The only thing left for you to do is start a YouTube channel called Over 35.” – David Macharia
On her now defunct band Sema and subsequent radio stint
“When the band inevitably broke up, Sanaa transitioned to radio, working alongside Eve D’Souza on Capital FM. Eve is now retired and in and out of the hospital with back pains from carrying the show for years.” – George Waweru
On being a karaoke host
“Listening to drunk people sing your songs better than you is a feeling no one should have to experience.” – George Waweru
On her ageless beauty
“A lot of people get into radio after they’ve been told they have a face for radio. Sanaa is the only radio host with a face for Pornhub.” – David Macharia
