Single Kiasi episode 7: Misogyny in the workplace for our girls
Societal prejudice against women has been teased throughout the season, especially regarding Sintamei. The men she works with don’t hide their disregard for her despite her brilliant contribution to the company, and there is the unsurprising defence of Kevin’s attempts to marry a second wife by his family. But in Single Kiasi episode 7, the gloves are off; we now see what the show is pointing out.

Last week’s cliffhanger showed Mariah in a tricky situation involving Mei’s boss, Henry. This week revealed how it went down. Henry and his friends tried to rape Mariah. She escapes but is devastated. Mei wants her to sue – “you want them to get away with this?” – but Mariah understands society would rather stand with a group of wealthy men. She goes ahead with it involuntarily and Henry’s reply is revenge porn.
However, he’s not done flexing his toxic masculinity; he extends the punishment to Sintamei. The much-talked-about promotion goes to her feckless male colleague, Steve. “Is this a joke?” Mei asks, questioning the outrageous decision that everyone seems to welcome. But Henry won’t tolerate a woman questioning him; he wants to frustrate her since she won’t sleep with him.
He’s suddenly inappropriate at work – caressing and spanking the butt of a willing female subordinate in his unlocked office. Again, flexing power. “This man is a dog,” Mariah’s cousin rightly says, but he, unfortunately, can’t be cancelled. The world doesn’t stop for rich and powerful men; it turns for them. Henry might get away with this, people like him always do, but maybe Single Kiasi will comfort us with an unpopular twist. But for now, the show reminds us of the silliness and dangers of workplace misogyny.
PS: Did we mention JK promised to transfer ownership of Mariah’s apartment to her but didn’t and has now stopped paying the loan payment? Well, just men men-ing in Single Kiasi episode 7.
PSS: Did we mention the seemingly only good man on this show is the young sexy intern, Andy. Hmm, we wonder why?
