South Park S23
Twenty-three seasons later, the foul-mouthed kids of South Park are back. And they’re just as bullish as ever – in fact, they’re even taking on US President Donald Trump and the entire Chinese government!
And if you like your South Park especially foul, catch the uncensored version on Showmax, streaming on Mondays after the TV-friendly edition broadcasts on Comedy Central.
Kenny isn’t dead in season 23. But he may wish he was by the end of the short 10-episode run. He and his troublemaker buddies – Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman and Stan Marsh – are highlighting Mr Trump’s immigration policies that end with kids in cages on the borders. And they’re highlighting China’s levels of control over its people for censoring episode 2 (Band In China) because they didn’t approve of the content as the Marsh family arrived to expand their marijuana business in the East.
If the season is a shocker and you think creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have gone too far, the season was never meant to happen. “We didn’t want more,” explains Trey. He and Matt started the #CancelSouthPark campaign at the start of 2018, only to be picked up for another four seasons (taking the show to season 26). He adds, “Apparently, our efforts to get our own show cancelled have fallen short. Luckily we love Comedy Central… and our staff, so we are looking forward to new cancellation opportunities in the next few years.”
Comedy Central certainly love this season, with network president Kent Alterman saying, “South Park is the greatest comedy in the history of television, unmatched in its satirical strength and cultural relevancy.”
