The Jellies S1-2
Creative supernova and rapper Tyler The Creator is blasting back with his hit animated series The Jellies!. And it’s rawer than ever thanks to its very, very unPC writing style.
The humour is darkly comical, the animation is that hybrid blend of The Simpsons and King Of The Hill that makes you feel uneasy but still comfy enough to binge the entire season in one sitting, and it tackles everything from racial tension to social distancing with teenage human Cornell and his adoptive jellyfish parents, giving The Jellies! that somewhat “we care about social issues” vibe.
Eric Thurm from avclub.com is a fan of its styling, saying that “there’s a lot to be said for brevity in TV at the moment. With so many options, and so many series demanding at least four or five hours before they ‘get good’, it’s refreshing almost regardless of its quality. In that respect, The Jellies! has more than enough going for it to justify watching a few 12-minute episodes, especially when each episode is guaranteed a least a couple of laughs.”
