Hot on the heels of Succession’s triumphant final season, the documentary series The Murdochs: Empire of Influence takes an in-depth look at one of the real-life media empires that served as its inspiration, exploring the rise of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, his influence in the world and the battle for succession amongst his children.
The seven-episode CNN Original series introduces us to a family of extreme power – and no small amount of sibling rivalry. It examines the origins of Rupert Murdoch’s news empire in his native Australia and his quest for global dominance in the media sphere, as well as the scandals and controversies that have surrounded Murdoch and shaped the shifting fortunes of his heirs.
Salon.com praised the show’s “double-fisted servings of media insight on one hand and juicy biographical examination on the other,” saying, “It is nimble and surefooted, illuminating, and above all, entertaining.”
