The Wife Season 2: Hlomu is pregnant, but whose baby is it?
The Zulu brothers are in jail, and Hlomu wakes up in hospital following her collapse. Meanwhile, Zandile is left to hold the fort at home and the kids are missing Hlomu.
It’s been a week since The Wife Season 2 has premiered on our screens, and The Wife Season 2 episodes 4-6 had Mzansi on the edge of their seats. With the new addition to its cast, Lerato Mvelase (Isibaya, The Station, The Road) who plays Nomusa, a prisoner Nkosana hired to take Zandile’s place in jail.
The cutting-edge telenovela breaks its own record by tripling its first-day viewership numbers on Showmax. This season focuses on the role of Zandile, the fierce matriarch of the Zulu family, played by Khanyi Mbau (Happiness is a Four-Letter Word, Red Room) and Mondli Makhoba (Umkhokha) reprises his role as Nkosana, the eldest Zulu brother in The Wife.
Let’s dive in on what went down this week:
Episode 4 – Nomusa worries about her kid’s condition
In pursuit of Zandile’s freedom, Nkosana hires Nomusa to take Zandile’s place in prison, in exchange, Nkosana promises to settle her son’s medical bills. She’s been trying to get a hold of Nkosana with no luck, and of course, this is because Nkosana has been arrested too. Nomusa is worried sick for her kid whose situation keeps worsening day by day.
Hlomu is pregnant, but who’s the father?
Qhawe is besotted with Hlomu and isn’t willing to let go. After confessing his feelings for her, Hlomu collapsed and had to be taken to hospital. The doctor breaks the good news that Hlomu is pregnant, but the question is, who is the father? Talk about the baby daddy dilemma, Hlomu is now detached from Mqhele and is scared because she doesn’t know who the father of her unborn baby is.
The Majolas need a new chairman to replace Nkosana
While the brothers are behind bars, the Majolas try to turn the taxi drivers against the Zulu brothers. They arrange an emergency meeting to talk about how they want Nkosana to step down as the chairman of the Taxi association.
Episode 5 – The Zulu brothers are released
They got arrested without evidence and had to spend days in prison without help. The commissioner misused his power by holding them in prison cells with no evidence, and also prevented them from getting a lawyer. He promises Nqoba an immunity deal because he thinks is a weak link from the brothers.
Before Nqoba could even decide, the Zulu brothers’ lawyer came to rescue. They eventually get released on account that there is no concrete evidence and therefore there is no case.
Episode 6 – Meet the new taxi association chairman, Nqoba
The taxi drivers are willing to side with the Majolas because they feel that they can’t wait for Nkosana, whose image is now tainted since he is arrested for alleged murder. But the Zulu brothers walk in just in time and the Majolas make it clear they don’t want to be led by a jailbird. Nkosana decided to take the order and give up his seat, but then announced his brother, Nqoba as a new taxi association chairman.
Nomusa wants out of the deal
When Nkosana finally visits her in prison, she seems apprehensive of this arrangement and wants to reconsider her decision. What she thought was a sacrifice for her son for a couple of years, now seems like a daunting task and she wants out. Not only is she overthinking about being in jail for many years, but also Zandile’s cellmate returns and notices that this isn’t the Zandile she knows. Nomusa worries that her cover might be blown and this cellmate won’t stop until she finds the real identity.
Hlomu saves herself from yet another miscarriage
Usually, when Hlomu doesn’t answer her phone, she gets beaten by Mqhele. While watching movies with Langa, she forgets to check her phone and when she wakes up from a nap, she sees a few missed calls from her husband, hysterical as she is, she rushes home. Only to find Mqhele with fists clenched, ready to remind her that a ringing phone must be answered.
Hlomu realised what was going on, and to protect herself and her unborn baby, she spits out that she’s pregnant and Mqhele’s mood changes, she realises she might have saved herself from yet another miscarriage.
With all the plot twists already in this season, it is safe to say we are in for a thrilling season.
