Uthanda Bani episode 2 recap: Forex trader’s toxic relationship with money
While Tshegofatso is worried about her partner’s trading habits, Siyaga doesn’t seem to think he has a problem. She and her man met through Instagram and things were fine in the beginning. However, she started noticing some things about him that made her question his lifestyle. She reached out to Uthanda Bani because she believes he needs professional help.
“He used to spoil me and buy me gifts, but I didn’t know where the money came from… There was a time when everything changed,” she told the host, Basani.
I’m just doing my job
Tshegofatso revealed that her boyfriend’s a Forex trader and that it’s now an addiction. “He trades non-stop and it becomes an issue because when he loses he takes out his frustration on me.”
This situation has been draining for her, she admitted, adding that he sometimes goes three days without talking to her. “When he loses he doesn’t talk to her or anyone else. He just becomes moody and drinks.”
The concerned girlfriend also shared that Siyaga has lost everything including an apartment, car and other properties. Siyaga, on the other hand, doesn’t think he has a problem at all. Instead, he sees this as something he does for a living. “I don’t think it’s an addiction, I’m just too focused on the job that I’m doing.”
Self-made cheese boy
According to him, he has to be addicted to money. “It’s not like I’m addicted to smoking and drinking. I’m addicted to making money,” he said on the show. Siyaga explained that he prefers to be alone when he blows his account. The business he’s in is quite risky.
He shared: “One day I lost R750 000. I want to be with people who understand Forex, someone who won’t judge me.”
Siyaga, who refers to himself as a “self-made cheese boy” started his trading journey back in 2019. He can make about R700 000 in minutes, he revealed on the show.
Basani made him realise that trading is now controlling his life. “Trading and all this is now your master. So, it’s an addiction, indeed. It’s not just about making money. The love for trading and money is actually dangerous for this guy,” she warned.
Siyaga was eventually sent to financial advisor Gerald Mandiya, who made Siyaga acknowledge his toxic relationship with money and the risks that come with being a Forex trader.
“When a currency loses its value, you can’t trade it, no one wants it,” says Gerald.
Gerald then implores Siyaga to rather start thinking of ways to make passive income for himself, especially when his finances run dry.
The sound advice given to Siyaga is considered by him – he even mentions that he had never considered using a financial advisor before. Hopefully his interaction with Gerald will offer him a much healthier relationship with money.
