Unmarried Nigeria S1-2
This local production from Africa Magic is about three women – Nengi (Venita Akpofure), Funbi (Enado Odigie) and Kamsi (Folu Storms) – who grew up in the same neighbourhood and who are inseparable friends. While they’ve gone onto have very different lives, they still face similar challenges: love, career, relationships and more.
What binds them is circumstance: they’re building their lives in Lagos, and that comes with all the struggles and cultural demands that young Nigerian women face. From expectations of marriage and families that can’t seem to stop interfering, to coping with infidelity and divorce, and dealing with the discrimination that women often face in the workplace.
Season one ended with Funbi pregnant and being chased again by Chuka; Nengi leaving her driver-turned-lover Weynom and Nosa proposing to Kamsi, only to find out she’s been cheating on him.
In season two, Nosa and Kamsi are now officially dating. Nengi has moved on from Weynom and is hanging around another unemployed guy (Tobi from Big Brother Naija). Funbi is in labour. Although these new developments look great for the women of Unmarried, their lives aren’t the fairy tales they deserve.
