In Treatment S1-4
Seasons 1-3 of award-winning HBO drama series In Treatment sees Gabriel Byrne play psychotherapist Paul Weston, a therapist who wants to solve all of his patients’ problems from the comfort of his home. The issue comes in when Paul starts to doubt his own abilities and needs to get therapy himself.
Gabriel is perfectly cast – he is cool, calm and collected, and his performance is so convincing that you’d swear he’s an actual psychologist. His voice is reassuring, he gives the perfect body language to make you feel at ease watching this in the comfort of your own home.
The real fun comes with the patients Paul is helping – their problems range from extra-marital affairs and depressive disorders, to autism and having to balance multiple lovers who know each other. Gabriel’s supporting cast are as much fun as him – watch out for Blair Underwood, Dianne Wiest and Mia Wasikowska.
Plus, Paul has to deal with Laura (Melissa George), an anaesthesiologist who’s dangerously obsessed with him…
In Season 4, Emmy winner Uzo Aduba (Mrs. America, Orange Is The New Black) stars as the observant, empathetic therapist Dr. Brooke Taylor, who takes over from Dr Weston.
Aduba was nominated for the 2021 Best Actress Emmy, and she’s up for a 2022 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama. The Season 4 reboot has a 95% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is #32 Best TV Shows of 2021 (So Far). As Variety says, Aduba is “proving to be one of the essential actors of the 21st century.”
The season’s cast boasts a widely-acclaimed performance from Hamilton star and Emmy nominee Anthony Ramos, as well as Emmy nominee John Benjamin Hickey (The Big C, The Good Wife), Charlayne Woodard (Pose, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), and Saturn Award nominee Joel Kinnaman (House of Cards, The Killing), among others.
