The Marksman (2021)

Liam Neeson’s characters always just need a little more time. And it’s no different in the Marksman, when he plays retired Marine sniper Jim Hanson, a drunken widowed farmer living on the Arizona-Mexico border in this action flick. The bank is foreclosing on his farm and he’s under attack from the drug cartels that use his farm as a stepping stone into the US. But that’s just the start: he takes an illegal immigrant under his wing when the cartels zone in on the boy and his mom.

It’s Liam Neeson, folks. People challenging him are going to catch a crack upside their heads. And badly. The guy is old but he just keeps going. He’s swapped his Irish accent for something a little more ’Merican and you’ll laugh when he says things like “y’all” and “adios”.

The plot is “been there, done that” but Liam’s acting weight and his character’s kind heart despite his ruthless, hardened shell from years in the killing fields, make this a pretty decent skop, skiet en donder when you don’t want to think too much about the storyline.
