Flawsome episode 8 recap: “Don’t embarrass yourself and me!”

One thing the men of Lagos have in abundance is audacity — and there’s plenty of that on display in Flawsome episode 8. Remember Uch, the dashing man who approached Dolapo at her meeting with Mr Smart? He has been sending flowers, and Dolapo has refused to accept them. So, he is delivering himself.

“I brought some more flowers to make sure you don’t forget about me,” he says, but Dolapo is more interested in how he found her office. He wants a date and suggests a great spot, but she is still not interested. What comes next is the kind of audacity only Lagos men have.

“Many girls are praying for a guy to shower them with a gesture like this. You should be flattered, really,” he says. Now, she is repulsed! “I have met a couple of egotistical men in my lifetime, but this takes the cake,” she retorts.

Elsewhere, Poju, still owing Ivie and Dolapo, is flexing a new G-Wagon on the Gram. Perhaps he is living fake life; you never know in this Lagos. However, Ivie goes to confront him. He calls her a vindictive ex making up lies because he left her. As they are arguing, Tersei appears from the corner and Ivie runs after him, calling his name, but he doesn’t reply. He is embarrassed!

When they finally sit down to discuss, he expresses his disgust before suggesting she lets go of the money. “Don’t go embarrassing yourself and me like that again,” he tells her, disgust all over his face. “How much is it? I will pay.”

But Ivie doesn’t like his words and the angle he’s coming from. This is about her, not his pride or feelings. She feels cheated by her ex, whom she and Dolapo took a hit for, and he owes them. But Tersei doesn’t see she is fighting for her money; he doesn’t notice she is angry because she was cheated by someone she once loved. He is rich and comfortable, and stuff like this is embarrassing to him, but even one naira that was given out of love matters to her.

He goes on and on, expressing disgust and questioning her childhood, never once trying to understand from her perspective. Ivie walks away when the condescension becomes unbearable—he alludes to her being mentally unwell. The one good thing about this messy conversation is that we now know she can walk away from situations demeaning her.

Did we mention Dolapo’s egotistical suitor came by again? Well, watch Flawsome episode 8 to find out what happens.
