Here’s what to expect in Flash S7
The latest season of C.W.’s The Flash is on Showmax, with new episodes dropping weekly.
Background
The Flash is a superhero TV series based on DC Comics character Barry Allen, a crime scene investigator who gains super-speed after being hit by lightning (on the show, his speed comes after the explosion of the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator). The character, played by Grant Gustin, first appeared in another C.W.’s superhero TV show, Arrow. The reception of Gustin’s Flash encouraged the network to develop a whole Flash series.
Seven years later, Gustin is still rocking the red leather suit and winning viewers over. Gustin played the Flash as a funny, timid hero getting used to his powers in the earlier seasons. Now, he’s a mature superhero and person; he’s married, leads Team Flash at the S.T.A.R. Labs, and is more in tune with his power and responsibilities.
Watch the trailer for season 7
This season shows plenty of that growth including parenting his future speedsters kids. It opens with the Flash working with a depleted Team Flash to defeat the Mirror Monarch (another product of the particle accelerator explosion), continuing the Mirrorverse arc from season 6. He must rescue Iris, Cisco’s girlfriend and save Central City. But what else does The Flash have for viewers this season?
Old foes return
Time travelling and having multiple universes creates leaks that foes exploit to return. And the Flash’s attempts to alter the past have always come with consequences. This season is no different; a few old foes will visit Central City. Interestingly, Flash is going to bring one of them intentionally. Will he regret it?
Forces of nature
Fans of the show are familiar with the Speed Force; this season introduces the other forces of nature (Sage, Still and Strength). These are born from Barry Allen and Iris West’s extraordinary love, but like everything Barry creates, they are potentially villainous.
Will he view them as enemies, or will the now mature Barry see them as his children since they are from his love with Iris?
Flash kids
Barry Allen and Iris West actual kids (from the future) are appearing this season. We have already met his daughter, Nora Allen; this season introduces Bart Allen. Bart is known as Impulse or Kid Flash in D.C. comics and his name describes his character.
Look out for the kids doing some parenting this season.
A Speed God is the season’s antagonist
The Flash has faced several villains, his most difficult are speedsters. Partly because they can do everything he can and their weird obsession to prove they are faster.
This season’s villain, who will not be named because we don’t do spoilers, has the god complex of Savitar, and is to Bart Allen what Reverse-Flash is to Barry Allen. He gained super speed after experimenting with tachyons and velocity-9 serum, but he craves the real thing. He also believes Impulse doesn’t deserve his organic speed because he is reckless and impulsive with it.
Unlike the speedsters’ villains before him, his game plan is to get organic speed; like the speedsters before him, he wants to prove he’s better than Flash.
