It doesn’t get any realer than The Ranakas

The Ranaka family have their own hit reality show that has amassed thousands and thousands of devoted followers across the country. The first season of the Mzansi Magic show is streaming on Showmax, so you have no reason to miss out.

Not convinced that this is THE reality show to binge on? Well, we’ll give you a few reasons why you need to keep up with The Ranakas.

They’re relatable

We don’t know about you, but we often feel a little uncomfortable when we watch the Kardashians on TV. As “real” as they try to be by airing their dirty laundry in front of the world, they’re still not your typical family. They’re wealthy, go to some of the world’s most expensive destinations and are some of the most famous people on Earth. Our point here is that only a few families live like this.

When you watch The Ranakas, you will understand why we’ve fallen in love with them. They’re your typical South African family – there’s the mother, father, daughters and sons and their children. What makes them lovable is that they that always keep it real, and there are many moments where you’re like “hey, that’s me” or ‘hey, that’s totally how my parents would react to this situation”. It’s like watching your own family on TV.

See why this show is a hit? Other reality shows need to take notes. Don’t worry, we won’t name them…

The famous sisters

Imagine getting a glimpse of what your favourite celebrities get up to when they’re not acting or presenting a TV or radio show. That’s exactly what happens when you tune into The Ranakas.

Dineo (TV and radio host) and Manaka Ranaka (actress) give fans a taste of their lives outside their day jobs. You get to see how they interact with their friends and family members, and sometimes it gets really ugly. But these sisters don’t hold back because they understand that doing a reality show means showing everything and not holding back. It makes the show crazily addictive, too.

What we like about them is that they really aren’t afraid to share their truth with the world and are not too concerned about being a “brand”. Yes, we get it, protecting your brand is great, but it doesn’t mean that you should present yourself as a perfect person with no flaws. Don’t people understand that authenticity is the way? Thanks to these sisters for getting it right.

You will be inspired

They say if at first you don’t succeed, you’ve got to dust yourself off and try again. This is something that this family clearly understands. Whether it’s failed relationships, explosive fights or disagreements, the Ranaka family always manages to rise above it all.

The great thing is that we all get to see these failures and successes play out on TV and, honestly, it’s a pleasure to watch. We also love the fact that even Mme Ranaka is determined to pursue her dreams, like publishing a book. There are so many moments that will leave you laughing, crying, happy and thinking “this is as real as it gets”.
