Meet the women of sizzling Ghanaian hit To Have and To Hold
As children, Enyonam, Kukua and Akosua were inseparable, but now they’re experiencing very different adulthood – with one problem in common: men.
Enyonam is unofficially married to a deceitful man; Akosua is a career-focused woman married to an irresponsible man; Kukua is a baby girl living life with zero responsibilities.
If these women sound familiar, it is because they are Kamsi, Nengi and Funbi from Nigerian hit series on Africa Magic’s: Unmarried, now in its second season. To Have and To Hold is the Akwaaba Magic adaptation of the show, and it is flavoured differently, like Ghanaian Jollof.
Like Unmarried, the show explores the struggles of women in a patriarchal society. The ambitious woman chased by her boss, the kind and trusting woman with a dishonest husband and the baby girl with a promiscuous sugar daddy. But, also, the beauty of Sismance – these women are there each other as they juggle marriage, career and motherhood. Let’s meet them.
Enyonam (33)
Occupation: Housewife
Played by Naa Ashorkor, Enyonam is the only mother among the friends. In her teens, she was impregnated by Nil Tetteh (Adjetey Anang), and they have been together ever since. Their unofficial union is unsurprisingly rocky, but she’s determined to make it work. However, things take a terrible turn when he conceals losing his job and takes to gambling and drinking to cope.
Akosua (33)
Occupation: Media executive
Akosua is the most accomplished of the ladies. She’s also the only one with a corporate job. But she has her problems: she is married to an irresponsible man whose family pushes to marry another woman because Akosua hasn’t given him a child. This breaks her heart because she despises cheats and liars, but she bounces back like the strong woman she is. Or did she?
Kukua (33)
Occupations: Socialite and fashionista
Kukua, played by the gorgeous Zynnell Zuh, is a sugar baby. She’s a sexy, sassy girl living a fancy life sponsored by the married Asamoah. When he sidelines her for a younger and equally pretty girl, she’s forced to reconsider her life choices.
