The British comedy series has a 90% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with The Guardian saying, “This brilliant doomsday show might just save the sitcom.” Calling it “cathartically progressive but never preachy,” they add, “It shouldn’t work, but – by God – it really does.”
Their 4/5-star review of Season 2 praises both the script and the cast, led by BAFTA winner Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners) as the family’s “pathologically incompetent patriarch,” and a “supremely awkward” Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers) as his “shudderingly repressed trad wife”, a performance that’s earned the actress a 2025 BAFTA nomination.
