MultiChoice partners with Vodacom to introduce Showmax in Tanzania
MultiChoice in Tanzania has partnered with Vodacom Tanzania PLC, the country's leading mobile communications provider, to introduce Showmax— Africa’s popular video-on-demand (VOD) platform. This significant collaboration marks a new era of accessible, high-quality entertainment in Tanzania, supporting the nation's digital transformation and spotlighting local creative talent.
Speaking during the launch event, Jacqueline Woiso, Managing Director, MultiChoice Tanzania, noted: “Today is a significant milestone in the country. Two big giants in the telecommunications and entertainment industry respectively are putting their minds together in the interest of the customer. This partnership reinforces our commitment to providing world-class content while leveraging on Vodacom’s cutting-edge technology.”
She added, “This collaboration will allow Vodacom customers across Tanzania to access an exclusive selection of TV shows, movies, sports, and documentaries via Showmax, making premium entertainment more accessible than ever before across multiple devices. Showmax offers a rich content library that includes both local productions and global hits, as well as Premier League action, delivering an exceptional viewing experience tailored to the diverse tastes of Tanzanians. This partnership is a clear example of how collaboration can create greater value for our customers, prioritising their needs over competition.”
Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director, Phillip Basimiire, expressed his excitement about the partnership: “This collaboration perfectly aligns with our commitment to advancing Tanzania into the digital age while transforming lives through technology. As smartphone adoption continues to soar in the country, we are dedicated to enhancing our digital service offerings across entertainment, education, agriculture, health, and transport. Today, we are proud to expand our entertainment portfolio with Showmax, providing a diverse range of premium content that resonates with all our customers.”
The launch of Showmax also emphasises the importance of supporting local talent and productions. By featuring a variety of local content, the platform aims to elevate the voices of Tanzanian artists and storytellers, ensuring that their work reaches a broader audience. This initiative not only enriches the entertainment landscape but also contributes to the growth of the local creative economy.
To celebrate this partnership, Vodacom and MultiChoice are offering exclusive mobile-only data bundles that allow Vodacom users to enjoy premium entertainment content at discounted rates. Users can simply download the Showmax app, purchase a bundle, and dive into a world of captivating entertainment.
