See the trailer of new Showmax comedy series One Weeks
Showmax has just released the first trailer for One Weeks – a family comedy about Fana, a charming high-school dropout from the streets of Soweto, who can’t believe his luck when he finds himself dating Lihle, a successful lawyer. He then has to rely on the help of Lihle’s sharp-witted 10-year-old daughter, Angie, to avoid losing Lihle to rich men.
One Weeks stars Zakhele Mabasa-Mokone (Isibaya) and Sihle Ndaba (Soweto Love Story) as Fana and Lihle respectively, with Mangaliso Aluta Mthembu as Angie.
Created and written by Chris Q Radebe (Icala, Isifiso) the comedy also stars the likes of Siphiwe Mtshali (Entangled, Tsha Tsha, Rhythm City) and Mpho Malatsi (Backstage, Scandal!).
Chris believes One Weeks not only taps into the wicked sense of humour that South Africans possess but also sheds light on the financial dynamics between partners in a relationship.

“South Africans love to laugh at themselves,” says Chris. “For this particular show, the premise showcases how partners carry themselves in a relationship where the gender roles are reversed. Every broke guy sitting at a corner in the township aspires to date a successful woman, because they think only about the perks. One Weeks holds up a mirror to the side of this dynamic that they know nothing about – the amount of work it takes to keep a woman of such calibre.”
Chris gushes over the cast of One Weeks, sharing how it was such a pleasure working with a cast that hardly wanted to leave the set. “The cast showed up and showed out every time,” he says. “They gave their all and what I appreciated the most is how they went over and above what was written in the script. Everyone really brought their A-game.”
“We’ve got a really amazing cast, the storyline is beautiful and relatable, and One Weeks is just such a feel-good show,” agrees Sihle. “But most importantly, One Weeks is also an interesting juxtaposition of two people from different backgrounds: the suburbs and the township. It shows us two worlds that are often considered incompatible, worlds we hardly see on-screen together, but for some reason in One Weeks these two worlds work well together. Despite their glaring differences, Lihle and Fana still love each other and try by all means to find common ground.”
“As South Africans, we’ve been through so much,” says Zakhele. “A lot of things have been quite stressful and I just believe that now is the time that people enjoy some feel-good, family-orientated content like One Weeks. We’ll always be confronted with problems and now is the time to really sit back and laugh at ourselves and what we as a society go through.”
One Weeks premieres on Showmax from 22 July 2024, with new episodes every Monday.
