Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (2024)

Christopher Reeve’s definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes that dominate cinema today. Reeve portrayed the Man of Steel in four Superman films, before being injured in a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralysed from the neck down. After becoming a quadriplegic, Reeve became a charismatic leader and activist in the quest to find a cure for spinal cord injuries, as well as a passionate advocate for disability rights and care – all while continuing his career in cinema in front of and behind the camera and dedicating himself to his beloved family.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story has won over 30 awards, including Best Documentary Award at the 2025 BAFTAs and six Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards. The feature documentary has a 98% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with The Hollywood Reporter calling it, “a powerful story of human endurance.” It has also been nominated for four 2025 Emmys: Directing, Writing, Editing and Music Composition.

Emmy-winning filmmakers Peter Ettedgui and Ian Bonhôte (McQueen, Rising Phoenix) direct Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, with South African Robert Ford among the producers. Ford has won two Emmys, a BAFTA and Producers Guild of America award for his work on acclaimed documentaries like The Deepest Breath, Rising Phoenix, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Citizen K and more.
