Where to see Schalk Bezuidenhout on Showmax
Two-time Comics Choice winner Schalk Bezuidenhout has won a SAFTA for his role as Danny in the acclaimed mockumentary Hotel, played the lead in the award-winning Kanarie, and been nominated for a SAFTA for his hilarious portrayal of Attie in Bennie Fourie-led sitcom Taktiek. These are just three of the reasons to stream the movies and series the stand-up comedian has starred in on Showmax.
Soos Pynappel op Pizza (2024)
In Showmax romcom Soos Pynappel op Pizza, Schalk stars alongside multiple Standard Bank Ovation award winner Kate Pinchuck, best known to Showmax viewers for her hilarious, SAFTA-nominated performance as Taryn in Tali’s Baby Diary. This was Schalk's first lead role in a romantic comedy, and he plays broken-hearted chef Waldo, who is sent to a singles retreat against his will. Here, he meets the formidable Becca, an Instagram chef who seems like she's been sent to test him - in more ways than one...
Kanarie (2018)

Kanarie has won awards at film festivals both at home and abroad, including Best Director, Picture, Editing, Set Design and Supporting Actor at the Silwerskerm Fees in Cape Town; Best Narrative Feature at the 36th Reeling Film Festival in Chicago; and Special Mention at the NYC NEWfest LGBT Film Festival. Schalk plays Johan Niemand, a gay 18-year-old from a small town who is drafted into the armed forces in apartheid-era South Africa. He gets to do what he loves - singing - in the army choir, where his willingness to spice things up and his commitment to being himself rubs some of his superiors and peers up the wrong way.
Hotel S1-5
Hotel's five seasons ensured the award-winning sitcom found a regular table at the SAFTAs with a steady stream of nominations. The mockumentary brings together a number of established local actors, which, aside from Schalk, include James Borthwick, Simoné Pretorius, Mila Guy, Beer Adriaanse, Martelize Kolver and De Klerk Oelofse. Set in a hotel in Mpumalanga called The Fransen, which has seen better days, the comedy's heartwarming elements are all rooted in the oddball characters who try their best to keep the hotel open - often to hilarious effect.
Taktiek S1
The hilarious kykNET series Taktiek is set in the fictional town of Schusterton. Like any other town in South Africa, Schusterton has a security company that looks after the safety of its residents. There are only two problems: nothing ever happens in Schusterton … and the company boss has been arrested. Marion Holm (Trompoppie) won Best Actress: Comedy at the 2024 SAFTAs for Taktiek, which was also up for Best TV Comedy and Supporting Actor for Schalk. The stacked cast also includes Showmax favourites like Keeno-Lee Hector (Spinners) and Melissa de Vries (Mince Jou Hare), as well as SAFTA winners James Borthwick and Deon Lotz.
Kaalgat Karel (2021)
A happy-go-lucky internet sensation with a heart of gold found his shot at fame by streaking at public events with his good pal, cameraman and getaway driver Flip. After Karel gorges his groin and literally finds himself on the fence… he’s forced to choose between his buttocks-intensive day job and his happily ever after when he meets paramedic turned soulmate Rita. Schalk stars as Flip in this silly yet serendipitous love story.
