UglyDolls (2019)

This heart-warming animated musical movie earned Kelly Clarkson a Teen Choice nomination for the song Broken & Beautiful, which also stars the three-time Grammy winner as Moxy, an “imperfect” plush toy looking for a child to love and accept her in the big world.

The movie also features the vocal stylings of Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures, Moonlight), Wanda Sykes (Black-ish and the voice of Vampirina’s Georgia), Golden Globe winner Jane Lynch (who voiced Calhoun in Wreck-It Ralph), Golden Globe nominee Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brothers, rapper Pitbull, Ice-T, and country star Blake Shelton, among others.

Based on a story by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Sin City), UglyDolls is directed by Annie- and Hugo Award nominee Kelly Asbury, who wrote the screenplay for Beauty and the Beast and directed Shrek 2 and Gnomeo & Juliet.

Common Sense Media recommends UglyDolls for ages 7+, and it’s a great conversation starter for parents and kids watching together to talk about concepts like what “beauty”, what it means to be different, and the things that make us all unique and precious.
