What to expect on Mnakwethu Season 3
We don’t know about you but seeing Musa Mseleku of Mnakwethu fame knocking on our door is something we don’t ever want to experience. Not that we don’t like him, but simply because we know that that would mean it’s time to have the polygamy chat. Ouch!
Thankfully, we can just watch him on TV for now, and not go through a million emotions while our partners tell us why they need second wives. The proud polygamist is back with another sizzling season of Mnakwethu, and it just dropped on Showmax. So, what can you expect from the third season of the hit reality show? Let’s fill you in.
Two women can’t share a kitchen
The show kicked off with Siyabonga and his wife, Tryphina. The Pinetown man, who met his Zimbabwean wife when she came to study in South Africa, told Musa that he needs a second wife because he wants to “grow” his family. “I’m the only child left. If I don’t grow my family, our family name will perish.”
That’s not all. Siyabonga also has a child with his potential second wife, and they’ve been together for eight whole years. When he and Musa broke the news to Tryphina, she lost it.
“You think bringing another wife is the solution? I can still give you other children. What are you saying to me?” She didn’t agree to the whole thing. “Two women can’t share one kitchen. One will end up getting burnt by water… One will come out in a body bag.”
Caught off guard
Another man who needs “help” in the form of a second wife is Hloniphizwe. He explained on the show that he got married when he was 23 years old because people were teasing him about his bald head and were encouraging him to get married.
“I got worried that people would think I was old when I was fairly young,” he said. And here we are, thinking that one should get married for love! We got it all wrong. Hloniphizwe married Nomvelo in 2017 and they have a three-year-old child. He now wants to expand his family by making Sthandiwe an official member of his family.
He started dating the 21-year-old in 2019. “We’re in love. She respects me. She can accept that I have a wife and child back home in the village. She has never tried to disturb me during my time with my wife and child,” he shared on the show.
With Musa’s help, Hloniphizwe asked his wife for permission to take another wife.
“Did I ask for help? I have never suspected him as someone who would want to be in a polygamous marriage. This is new to me. He’s never mentioned this before,” Nomvelo said. She made it clear that the polygamy thing will never happen in her household. “Forget it.”
The fact that Sthandiwe is still young made Nomvelo even angrier.
She said: “Such a small child. This is a schoolgirl. And you say you want a second wife when you bring me a child?”
The serial cheater
Siyabulela’s case started on a promising note but ended in tears. He came to the show and shared stories about his happy marriage. So, why does he want a second wife if he’s happily married?
It’s simple. He saw someone else outside that he’d like to build a life with. “My wife doesn’t understand that, so that’s where you [Musa] come in as an expert in the field… It’s purely because of love,” he said.
Well, it turns out things aren’t so great at home. His wife, Heidi, revealed that there’s been a lot of infidelity in their marriage. “It really is a lot because it’s at a point where his girlfriends call me to harass me and all of the above.” She brought all the receipts when Musa approached her. All of this while beating Siyabulela up!
Heidi claimed she isn’t being treated right at home. “He doesn’t even have a house and they’re renting. So, when he says he wants a polygamous marriage, how will he provide for us?” She then showed Musa pictures and videos of her husband cheating with more than 20 women. “He sleeps with his girlfriends in front of my two-year-old son.”
Even Mseleku was defeated by Siyabonga’s behaviour. “Siya is such a disgrace; he sleeps with anything on two feet. He doesn’t choose.” He said men shouldn’t call Mnakwethu if they do such “filth”.
