Showmax announces The Mommy Club: Van die Hoofstad reunion
Actress and presenter Leandie du Randt will host The Mommy Club: Van die Hoofstad reunion, premiering on Showmax in two parts on Fridays 27 June and 4 July 2025.
“We chose Leandie because she’s an exceptional presenter with years of experience in the entertainment industry,” says Lea Knoesen, executive producer at POP24. “She’s the perfect fit to guide a group of such strong, dynamic women. Leandie brings the heart, strength and presence needed to lead these important conversations with the care and sensitivity they deserve.”

The most-watched Afrikaans series on Showmax since the platform’s relaunch, The Mommy Club: Van die Hoofstad follows five powerhouse mothers who are redefining modern motherhood: Ansu Viljoen, Crystal van der Burgh, Johandri Johnson, Louise Volschenk and Tessa Tullues.
Having hosted Love Island South Africa, Leandie is no stranger to reality TV drama. After a season packed with heartfelt moments, personal revelations and headline-making drama, Leandie is ready to tackle the burning questions fans have been asking.
In an exclusive sit-down, she spills the tea on what to expect, how she approached the reunion, and more.
You’re no stranger to hosting reality shows. How do you feel about the opportunity to host this reunion?
It’s always an honour to be chosen as a host. I feel truly privileged to be trusted with these women’s hearts and vulnerability. It takes a lot to put yourself out there on TV, and I hope to highlight their strengths, not just the negatives that the public might be focusing on right now.
Which edition of The Mommy Club did you watch to get inspiration for your hosting duties?
I didn’t go that route. I believe in staying true to who I am and how I approach things. My focus was on knowing the show and its content inside-out, working closely with the production team and director, but most importantly, going in with an open heart and truly listening. When you listen to understand, rather than to judge, your response comes from the heart, not the head, and that’s where the magic lies.
How are you planning on addressing everything at the reunion?
Like Switzerland! I’m somewhere between Dr Phil and Judge Judy. My aim is to help them see things from each other’s perspectives, while still standing firm in what they believe to be true. I’m also there to guide the conversation. It’s not about me; it’s about giving them the space to speak their truth. At the same time, I hope to serve as a voice for the public.
What are some of the biggest points you want to address?
This season has been so dramatic; there is a lot to address. Some of the pressing issues are the Johandri and Ansu saga, the mom-shaming issue, all the drama, and, of course, the whole bushveld game situation.
What can viewers expect from the reunion?
Viewers can expect a lot of honest conversations about what really went down on camera and even behind the scenes. Some time has passed but, now that they’ve seen themselves on screen, emotions will be raw. There’ll be tears, laughter, some shock, and definitely a few arguments.
It’s been a pretty intense season. How are you planning on tackling all of the drama that happened this season?
Step by step, little by little. Luckily, I’ve got a strong team guiding me every step of the way.

How did all the drama affect your prep?
It made me reflect on my own life. That gave me some grace, but also reminded me to stay grounded. Sometimes, we don’t realise how we come across to others until we see ourselves objectively. I think many of these women’s intentions were different from how things played out in the end. This will be a mirror for them and hopefully for the viewers too, to pause and take stock of who they’re surrounding themselves with, how they’re expressing themselves, and whether that’s landing as intended.
Were there any conversations or situations you were worried about?
Definitely the mom-guilt topic. I’m not a mom myself, so I can’t personally relate to that experience.
Do you feel like the show reflects some of the things that happen in Afrikaans communities?
Unfortunately, yes, to a degree. But also, these things happen across all communities. For me, it’s more about what can happen when you’re surrounded by the wrong people, or just people who aren’t your kind of people. In Afrikaans, we say: “mense wat nie jou dam se gans is nie.” It’s always been important for me to surround myself with people I wouldn’t mind trading lives with. You become like the five people you spend most of your time with, so choose your circle very carefully.
What are you hoping to achieve at the reunion?
I want the ladies to feel like they had the chance to speak their truth and share their side of the story. I hope they leave feeling heard, not judged. More than anything, I want them to walk away knowing that there’s beauty in each of them. It’s about choosing the right people around you so your true magic can shine. Whether they are each other’s people, that remains to be seen. And if they’re not, that’s also okay. I think a big sign of maturity is being able to agree to disagree, while still showing respect and kindness.
