We caught up with the media personality, entrepreneur and all-round celebrity host about The Real Housewives of Nairobi S2 and what to expect from her this season. Hint: she is not holding back.
You filmed S2 while pregnant, now you’re back for the second season looking snatched and better than ever. How does that feel?
I’ve been pregnant two times in two years and it feels really nice to come back for a new season looking this good. It was a bit hectic last season filming while pregnant. I was tired most of the time, my energy was zero but now I just feel like the energy is back. I feel like myself again.
Does that mean that we’re going to see a different side of Vera this season?
Of course, Season 2 is different for Vera. It’s spicy, exciting and entertaining and I’m just the Vera that people know - the bubbly and fun Vera.
Now that you’re no longer married to Brown Mauzo, how does it feel to come back to the new season as a single woman?
In Season 2, it’s just Vee as a single mum and divorced. I feel like I’m the best version of myself this season. I am embracing life and enjoying it because divorce is not the end of the world, and I want people to understand that. Actually, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.
You’re also now a mum of two kids, how is that for you? And are we going to see all that on screen?
It’s been amazing parenting my lastborn Isis and I love that he looks exactly like me. I’m very excited that people get to see more of me as a mum and how I handle motherhood with two babies, both who are under two years.
Looking at your journey from Season 1 until now, in what ways do you think Vera has grown?
There’s a lot of growth for sure. This season I’m happier, glowing and just living my truth. While married, I was a little uptight and there are a lot of things that were happening in my marriage that people didn’t know that made me hold back on so much in Season 1. You’re going to see everything! You’re going to see the Vera that people love to watch: the wild Vera, the caring Vera, the dramatic Vera, the one that starts wahala here and there and spices everything up.
Talking of drama and wahala, what has the experience been like filming this new season?
It’s been fun and a rollercoaster for sure, so many surprises in this new season. You know there’s a difference between drama and madness and this season is just a mix of everything. It’s different kinds of emotions - happiness, sometimes it’s sad and sometimes people go crazy.
Your relationship with fellow Housewife Minne Kariuki has been one of the most refreshing things to watch on the show. Are we going to see more of that friendship in the new season?
Minne is amazing, and I feel like in the last season, we really didn’t get so close because we had someone in the middle trying to stop us from being friends. Our friendship was very neutral, it was like we were friends but then there was some distance and a lot of trust issues because of so many sides. But once we were done with Season 1, we did build a very great friendship outside the show. It was beautiful, and now coming back for Season 2, we are besties in real life, and not just for the show. And that’s the most beautiful thing, that we’re really close and people get to see our friendship and get to see us together as family as well, you know, her family and my kids. She’s a sister to me now and of all the Housewives, she’s my best friend.
