Recapping The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice reunion part 1
The much-anticipated reunion special of The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice gave the people what they want. The ladies were dressed to impress as they reflected on their debut season, which received rave reviews on social media. The special episode was hosted by news broadcaster Shahan Ramkissoon, who left no stone unturned.
New additions to the family

First things first – in exciting news – Kim gave birth to her first child, a baby girl. She shared that she was eight to nine months pregnant when she was shooting the show. “It was intense. I mean, I left with swollen feet, and you know, there’s hormones and all of that. So, there was a whole case of this journey of being pregnant. And now that’s she here, it’s almost unbelievable… Very exciting to have a mini-me and it’s been such an incredible experience,” she shared.
Asharia, who had her son when the show started, was asked about how he’s doing. “He’s my boy… You know how some moms have postpartum depression? I’ve got the postpartum obsession. I am obsessed with my boy. I’m totally in mama mode and I’m loving it,” she said.
Parenting styles

The ladies got to talk about their experiences with their new-found fame and how that has impacted their lives. Shahan then shifted the conversation to a topic about what they judge each other on as parents. Kim revealed that before she was a mother she thought of things differently because she used to idealise what being a mother can be. However, once you become a mother, you get exposed to external information and other mothers on social media, and you tend to wonder if you’re good enough.
Resh added: “I think that where it’s easy to judge is the stage you are as opposed to the stage somebody else is in.” Devina, on the other hand, had a view on gentle parenting. She admitted that she judges parents who opt for that method of parenting. When she wasn’t a mother, according to her, she didn’t think she’d shout at her kids. However, her views quickly changed after becoming a mother.
No malicious intent

Adding to the conversation about being judgmental, Lenore asked Abigail to clarify what she meant when she described her parenting style as “too laid-back”. “Firstly, it was a compliment,” Abigail said. “I watched you and your children, and I love the way you parent them. And I often see you guys more as friends, than you as their mom. And I admire that. I’m very different with my girls,” Abigail clarified. She said the comment was not meant to be malicious.
Since that was out of the way, Lenore also got to talk about her encounters with Christina on the show. Although the two mommies didn’t start on the right side (because of some of Christina’s comments), they’ve since made up and are now friends. Lenore shared that she forgave Christina because she explained where she was coming from and asked for forgiveness. “I’m so grateful for the fact that despite everything going on around us, and the odds were against our friendship… No one would have thought that we would find our way to each other, ever,” Christina said on the show.
Catch the second part of The Mommy Club: Sugar and Spice on Thursday, 7 November.
