RHOLagos S2 episode 1 recap: “If you know Lagos babes, they show up and they show off”

Welcome back to The Real Housewives of Lagos where the drama is as hot as the Lagos sun!

We're back for the second season, and it's sizzling already with the introduction of two new Eko queens. But before we dive into the juicy details of this episode, let’s recap a bit.

Last season left us on the edge of our seats with a fiery reunion. Things hit a peak with Toyin and Chioma almost getting into a scuffle, and a year later, there's no love lost between them.

The new season opens with Toyin and Mariam meeting; they haven't spoken much in the past year, and Toyin is disappointed her friend didn't check in on her when she had a miscarriage earlier in the year. It made headlines and was even covered in the national dailies, but Mariam claims she checked on her friend.

“Toyin telling me I did not call her after hearing about her miscarriage, you know that girl is lying,” she counters. “I called you, we spoke.”

Meanwhile, the vibe is immaculate and happy when Chioma meets Iyabo; after their ceremonious greeting, Iyabo brings up Toyin, whom Chioma is now wary of.

“And you really liked her,” Iyabo says.

“I actually like Toyin,” Chioma replies. “I think that’s what hurt me the most, I actually liked her. I could be mouthy, but I am still actually quite respectful if you think about it.”

Chioma still feels hurt by the reunion events and doesn't understand why Toyin would go physical on her. She is not eager to share a space with her because she doesn't want drama. Iyabo thinks Toyin misunderstands Chioma — she says Chioma has a way of talking that gets under Toyin’s skin.

To ease the tensions from last season, Mariam is hosting the ladies to a spa staycation, and there won’t be any alcohol because the vibes have to remain cheerful! Chioma arrives early; we are guessing it is a new season and new habits!

Now, here are some other juicy highlights from the first episode of The Real Housewives of Lagos Season 2.

Not everyone is cool with Toyin

Toyin-Lawani

“How’s Toyin, by the way? I haven't seen her since last year,” Laura asks while on a call with Mariam. She says Toyin is fine and will be fine, which gives Laura the understanding that they haven't seen each other. But Mariam doesn’t bother to explain because she and Laura don’t have the sort of relationship where she can discuss Toyin intimately.

Laura emphatically states that it's over between herself and Toyin, and there is no hope for a reconciliation. When Chioma asks her if they are still close at Mariam’s staycation, Laura says she no longer considers her a friend.

“I am not surprised that Tiannah has issues with all the other ladies,” Chioma chimes in. “It is just a testament to her character.”

Meet Faith Morey and Tania Omotayo

Untitled-design-9

As we mentioned earlier, we have two new queens, and boy, are they fun! Faith Morey is an IJGB who’s still trying to settle into Lagos. She is meeting people and settling well, which isn’t surprising because she is real and authentic — and has two Rolls Royces.

Then there's the lively Tania Omotayo. You might remember her as Wizkid's ex-girlfriend, but don’t dwell on that too much because she doesn't like it. She has been friends with Chioma for eight years and is the creative director of Ziva Lagos and Ziva Kids.

“When I meet people for the first time, they usually think I'm either a bitch or I'm quiet, and when they actually get to know me, what shocks them the most is my madness,” Tania says.

As you can see, they both fit right in.

Tania or Carolyna?

Tania

The ladies meet Tania for the first time at Mariam’s staycation, and they can't help but draw comparisons with Carolyna. She walks in looking all regal in a very simple outfit that Iyabo approves of, and then the stares start. Is she, or isn't she?

“People can say she is the other lady’s replacement,” Mariam starts. “Probably Chioma has a type.”

“She reminds me of Carolyna,” Iyabo adds before inquiring if she is coming back.

“Iyabo, leave her alone; she’s not that girl,” Chioma replies while laughing sheepishly. “They are both mixed-race, but they are not the same.”

The innocent awkwardness quickly evaporates because Tania is a good sport and handles it with class and a smile on her face.

Faith steals the show

Faith-Morey-2

“The six feet Amazon queen walks in … in her glory,” Faith says about her late show-stopping appearance at the staycation. “She wasn’t actually checking out anybody.”

She’s wearing a lovely dress that’s extra, extra — the type of sartorial ostentatiousness associated with Lagos women at owanbes.

“If you know Lagos babes, they show up and they show off,” Faith says about her extravagant outfit.

The ladies are stunned by the extravagance. “What is Faith wearing!” Iyabo exclaims. Tania thinks the dress is cute but unfit for the occasion. Chioma asks about the story behind her ensemble, and Faith replies, “I am always a queen, honey. Gotta come with the crown or train.”

It is giving boss chic energy!

The other ladies aren't exactly moved by it, but Faith is just happy they got the point: she is a queen who always makes a grand entrance!
