First look at Between Worlds, coming to Showmax March 2025

Showmax has shared a first look trailer for Between Worlds, a brand-new Nigerian Original premiering Thursday, 6 March 2025 with new episodes released weekly. The 10-part fantasy series rooted in Yoruba mythology takes viewers on a journey where the past and present collide in a mystical adventure.

The story follows Olamide (Awe Abayomi), a fraudster who unexpectedly finds himself supernaturally transported to Ilu Aarin, a powerful kingdom in another world ruled by the desperate king, Oba Ajitoni (Femi Branch). As Olamide struggles to survive in this unfamiliar world, he becomes entangled in palace intrigues and age-old conflicts, all while being guided and tested by the enforcer of cosmic justice, Esu (Soibifaa Dokubo). The revered Yoruba deity, known as the divine messenger and the bridge between the spiritual and human realms, appears in different forms, ensuring that no action goes without consequence. His influence shapes Olamide’s journey, forcing him to confront his past while navigating the treacherous politics of an ancient kingdom.

Meanwhile, in the present day, undercover detective Ifetomiwa (Taiwo Ola) finds herself drawn into a case that seems eerily connected to the mystical forces shaping Ilu Aarin. As past and present intertwine, the question remains: Can one ever truly escape fate?

Between Worlds is created and executive produced by Emmanuel Uduma, who executive produced two Nigerian seasons of MTV Shuga, and was at the helm of Showmax’s first Nigerian Original movie School Run. Directed by Edward Uka, Tyrone Terrence and Sola Roberts, with Terrence also serving as head writer, Between Worlds stars Soibifaa Dokubo, Ropo Ewenla, Ifu Ennada, Olujide Sunday, Emmanuel Degiri, Laolu Loto, Taiwo Ola and Oreofe Oguntola.

“Between Worlds is a powerful story about fate, redemption, and the choices that shape us. We wanted to bring Yoruba mythology to life in a way that feels real and exciting. Every scene, every character, and every twist in the story is designed to keep viewers hooked,” says Uduma.
