Thabiso Rammusi on Mpho and adulting after divorce
Showmax has just dropped the trailer for the third and final season of Adulting.
Premiering at 7pm on 25 January 2025, with new episodes streaming every Saturday, this season raises the stakes as the gents confront their deepest fears and desires while striving to keep their friendship intact.
It’s a new chapter for the group: Bonga (Thembinkosi Mthembu) navigates married life, Vuyani (Luthando BU Mthembu) embraces his role as a club owner, Eric (Nhlanhla Kunene) adapts to a 9-to-5 lifestyle, and Mpho (Thabiso Rammusi) faces life as a newly divorced father.
Zibuyile Dladla chats with Thabiso about Mpho’s tumultuous journey on the final season of the SAFTA-nominated, record-breaking show.

What has been your favourite moment or scene throughout the series, and why?
My favourite moment is from Season 2 when Mpho receives divorce papers from Zithulele. He tries to manipulate the situation, but it backfires. After being married to Zithulele for so long, he viewed her as an obedient, forgiving wife who always went with the flow. But his infidelity - and fathering a child with another woman - became her breaking point. Watching Zithulele take a stand and reclaim her power was incredible. It forces Mpho to confront his actions and accountability. In Season 3, I think viewers will be intrigued to see how Mpho handles this more assertive Zithulele.
At the end of Season 2, Mpho was left a lonely single father, with strained relationships with his ex-wife and mistress. As we enter Season 3, how far is he willing to go to change and become a better father and co-parent?
After realising the gravity of his mistakes and experiencing the void of divorce, Mpho knows he must change. The absence of family and unity weighs heavily on him; simple moments like coming home to an empty, cold house take their toll. In this new season, Mpho is determined to rebuild his relationship with his children. However, this presents a significant challenge as he tries to balance his personal desires with his parental responsibilities. He’s aware of how crucial change is for his growth. As for how far he’s willing to go? Well, you’ll have to tune in to Season 3 to find out.
When filming Season 1, did you anticipate the show would continue for multiple seasons and receive such acclaim?
To be honest, we didn’t expect it to go beyond one season. The nature of our industry is unpredictable. Nothing feels certain until contracts are signed. But we were hopeful. When we saw the love and feedback from the audience after Season 1, we realised there might be more to come. By Season 2, we thought, “This is it.” Now, fast forward to 2025, and here we are gearing up for Season 3.
What do you think has contributed to its success?
Adulting resonates because it’s relatable. Its storytelling offers a fresh perspective on how men experience life, their struggles and internal battles in today’s world.
What has been the greatest lesson you’ve learned from Mpho?
Mpho has taught me the value of honesty, especially in marriage and family life. His mistakes serve as lessons: dishonesty has consequences, not just in marriage but in all areas of life.
In Season 3, how does Mpho and Bonga’s friendship evolve, especially given the pivotal role Bonga played in helping Mpho provide for two households?
In Season 3, Bonga looks to Mpho for marital advice, as Mpho is the only one in their circle who’s been married. It’s an interesting shift. Bonga, who previously helped his friends financially now needs support. Mpho steps into this role, offering insights from his own bumpy marital journey to help Bonga avoid making the same mistakes. Their friendship deepens as Mpho becomes a pillar of guidance for Bonga.
If this wasn’t the final season, what areas of growth would you have liked to see from this character?
Mpho is already a great father to his twin sons, but now he’s raising a daughter - a new blessing in his life. I would’ve loved to explore how he navigates fatherhood with raising a daughter and as she grows how that influences his decisions, particularly in his relationships with women.
While you wait for Season 3, binge the first two seasons of Adulting, which made it onto the list of the 10 most streamed titles of 2024 on Showmax.
