5 shocking moments from The Catch, now streaming on Showmax
Mzansi Magic’s reality dating series The Catch has landed on Showmax, reunion special included, and it’s delivering everything: drama, deception, romance, betrayal, and a juicy R500K prize.
Hosted by the always-fabulous Kat Sinivasan - who deserves an award for “presenter who stirs the pot with a smile” - this isn’t your average dating show. Kat knows exactly when to throw shade, prod a soft spot, or drop a truth bomb. He’s not here to babysit anyone’s feelings, which is just as well, because things get very messy, very quickly.
Eight stunning women arrive looking for love. A few charming bachelors enter the mix. But here’s the catch: some of these men are imposters, playing to win hearts - and the cash. It’s a modern minefield where strategy can be just as important as chemistry.

Each week, the stakes rise. Win the challenge and you score a spa date and immunity. Then comes the mixer, where alliances are tested, followed by the Last Supper, where emotions boil over before elimination and recoupling.
In the end, the woman chooses whether to split the R500 000 or keep it all - if she’s picked a genuine suitor. Choose an imposter? Game over. Goodbye love and money.
5 OMG moments that will have you screaming at your screen
1. The beef that started before the cameras rolled (The Catch, episode 2)

Let’s just say that peace was never an option in episode 2 as tensions explode between couples Anita and Mpande, and Anna and Mbulelo, who share a room. Anita becomes suspicious of Mbulelo’s overly gentle behaviour toward Anna and accuses him of being an imposter. Anna defends her partner, but it turns out that the real drama began before they even entered the house - on the car ride to the lodge. Despite an agreement to leave that energy behind, it all resurfaces once Anna shares details with Mbulelo, reigniting the feud.
2. Godfrey fuming over Lethabo (The Catch, episode 5)

Godfrey and Lethabo had just crushed the kissing challenge, but when he caught her sobbing in Nigel’s arms like a scene straight out of The Bold and the Beautiful, he snapped. Lethabo had admitted that she found Nigel attractive and a great kisser - words Godfrey didn’t take well. He claimed he wasn’t angry... while hurling a steamer and punching walls like he was prepping for a Marvel audition. Mpande had to step in before furniture got involved.
3. Gina’s dilemma (The Catch, episode 7)

Gina finds herself torn between Romeo, her steady choice, and Godfrey, the wildcard who’s started getting under her skin. In a moment of honesty, Romeo tells her, “I would kindly appreciate it if you chose him at the recoupling.” But Gina chooses Romeo anyway.
Drama still follows. The tension between them builds, leading to a heated argument. By morning, Romeo packs his bags and moves out, without Gina. The house is left speechless. Us? Rewinding the scene for the third time.
4. Mpande’s plot twist shakes the lodge (The Catch, episode 8)

Mpande is caught forming a secret alliance with Kat, who, awkwardly, is with Anita, his ex. The mission? Take down Nigel. But here’s where things spiral: Mpande is also secretly trying to win Anita back, while still coupled with Gina.
At the Last Supper, Anita exposes everything. Suddenly, Mpande is public enemy number one. Then comes Noluthando, Nigel’s partner, who drops her own receipts: Mpande told her Gina was “young and easy to manipulate.” The room freezes. Before the dust settles, Kat fans the flames further by questioning whether Nigel and Noluthando can make it outside the show - Noluthando works at a nightclub and Nigel is a rising chef and actor. The result? Yelling, finger-pointing, and pure chaos.
5. Nigel’s old flame returns (The Catch, episode 11)

Just when Nigel and Noluthando seem solid, his ex, Unami, makes a dramatic return. Her entrance chills the mood, especially for Noluthando. The trio sits down for a “friendly” chat that escalates fast. Unami confronts Nigel about a bracelet he once gave her, then drops the bomb: “Did you guys have sex?” (Spoiler: yes.) She brushes off their past as “just casual sex” — no fluff, no filters.
Later, at the Last Supper (because of course it happens there), Lethabo stirs the pot, asking how Nigel’s connection with Unami differs from what he has with Noluthando. Tension spikes. Anna and Unami claim that Nigel’s new relationship is purely just casual sex, and Noluthando snaps - again. In a dramatic move, Unami tears off the bracelet and throws it away.
From meeting the ladies’ families and friends to one final explosive reunion, the cast gets one last shot to confront, confess, and maybe even reconcile.

The Catch is the kind of show that makes you cancel plans just to watch the madness unfold. Between the shock reveals, sneaky players, tangled romances, and Kat Sinivasan sipping drama like tea, this is South African reality TV at its best.
The Catch is available to binge-watch on Showmax.
