Born Into Fame S1: AJ and Sindi talk about “commitment”
To show his appreciation for his partner, AJ decided to do something nice and take her out. The lovebirds have been together for seven years and AJ sees the importance of rekindling all the emotions that they’ve had since they’ve been in each other’s lives. “Apart from all the hecticness of growing up, raising a child and being in a marriage,” he elaborated.
A thoughtful gesture
AJ took Sindi on a surprise picnic to make up for missing Valentine’s Day. “So, throughout that seven years, we’ve spent Valentine’s completely differently, spontaneously in different ways, different times. But this year, however, it was very quiet. Well, at least I thought it was quiet until she bought me a gift and I was just there with my lovey-dovey self, just trying to be like ‘happy Valentine’s Day’,” AJ shared.
He told Sindi that apart from making up for lost time, he also brought her there to de-stress. “Let’s just be here, let’s enjoy the silence, the peace with each other,” he said to her. AJ then went on to share what he likes about the mother of his child. “She’s very caring, she’s got a good heart, she’s very sweet. She was another person that was there when I needed her the most,” he said, adding that she’s been in his life since they met.
Reflecting on challenges
Not only that, but AJ also referred to Sindi as a “superwoman”. “She does a lot for us to function. Some I see, some I don’t see, and I think I might overlook a lot of things.” The couple spoke about their child, Zano, and how much they worry about her. “When Zano was born, I think that’s when a lot of challenges happened in the relationship because firstly, I was still sort of staying at home.” This meant that there was no place to raise a child and have a partner.
AJ explained: “I couldn’t see her that often but that made the bond so much stronger because she was away, and my daughter was away, and I saw them now and again.” When they moved in together, he focused most of his energy on their daughter and that changed the dynamic of their relationship. “That’s when she [Sindi] started feeling as though maybe certain things aren’t enough.”
It’s not just about the fairytale
Towards the end of their date, AJ told Sindi that he wants to make things right and set a wedding date. They’ve been engaged for three years. “It’s not just about the fairytale. I honestly want commitment more than anything from you,” Sindi said. However, AJ doesn’t seem to understand what she means. “I don’t know what commitment she wants. We live together, we have a child, she sees me every day, she knows my finances, she knows where I’m at the whole time, I’ve bought her a car, she stays in a property that we bought together,” AJ said.
Sindi, on the other hand, wants the ability to confidently “claim” that she’s AJ’s wife.
