Faithless Season 1 episode 5 recap: Crime and the church
After last week’s cliffhanger ending, episode 5 of Faithless on Showmax delivers even more intrigue! The air is thick with tension at Benja's funeral as we jump between past and present to learn that Esther and her friends have made a deal with the devil.
Here’s a recap of everything that happened in episode 5:
Cain attends Benja’s funeral

Cain’s presence looms large at Benja’s funeral. Uninvited, he presents a short eulogy to Benja, but his words veil a not-so-subtle threat. He wants Esther and her friends to know he’s in charge, and that he’ll be keeping a close eye on them.
No way out
The ladies don’t have any other options than to work for Cain. They don’t want to risk the lives of their loved ones by going against him. But Esther wants them to stand strong. She wants no part of it and storms off, but we know there’s no way out when you’re caught in Cain’s web.
Meanwhile, Pastor Musa becomes suspicious of Ruth, sensing she may be hiding something about her association with Cain. Ruth lies that she’s found an anonymous donor for the church, but he can sense there’s more to her story.
Esther loses faith

Esther is plagued by her memories and suffers under the weight of responsibility to take care of Lily, who is traumatised after her experience at the church. Esther turns against her faith and rallies against God for not protecting her and for allowing all the bad things to happen.
Cain’s wash-wash at the church
With cameras and new computers installed at the church, Cain’s wash-wash operation is set up and ready to go. Ruth takes charge and tries to convince Cain that they can use the money for good – and that doing so will work in his favour.
Jonah promises to do whatever he can to protect Esther and Lily
Jonah visits Benja’s grave and to make a vow to his deceased friend: he promises that Esther and Lily will be taken care of. Detective Dan confronts him and we learn that it was Jonah who gave Dan the anonymous tip about Cain. Dan challenges Benja; he says that if Benja wants to protect Esther and Lily, he’ll wear a wire to entrap Cain.
Will he be brave enough to rat out his own father and take him down, once and for all? All the episodes of Faithless are ready to bingewatch on Showmax.
