Jadon Sancho ready to bring excitement to the Bridge
Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United, with the Blues having an obligation to sign the England international permanently next summer.
He started his career at Watford before joining Manchester City at the age of 14. Three years later, he signed for Borussia Dortmund and proved himself to be one of the most exciting wingers in Europe.
Jadon made 137 appearances across four seasons with the German giants, winning the 2019 DFL Supercup and the 2021 DFB-Pokal. He also established himself in the England squad, winning 18 caps during his time with Dortmund.
In the summer of 2021, having represented England at the European Championship, Jadon joined Manchester United. He made 38 appearances during his first campaign with the club and scored five goals, one of which came at Stamford Bridge in a 1-1 draw.
This week, Showmax features an interview with Chelsea’s new signing as he speaks about his ambitions with the Blues.
How excited are you to join Chelsea and get started?
I’m really excited. Obviously London is where I grew up, so I am happy to be back.
What have the last few days been like for you?
It’s been a bit crazy, to be honest. Obviously the last day of the transfer window was crazy as expected. I’m just happy that it’s finally done.
Why Chelsea?
It’s the manager, obviously. I knew him from my days at Manchester City, and when he was with Pep Guardiola. He spoke to me on the phone and told me about the project and what he was building. For a young player like myself, it’s really exciting.
Has manager Enzo Meresca spoken to you about what he wants from you this season?
I don’t think he needs to say what he needs. Obviously they have signed me for a reason, to contribute to the team and hopefully I can do that.
What do you like about the manager?
I think his style of play. How wingers get on the ball. Wingers can go one versus one. They play a lot of one two’s with the team and striker combination of play is great. It’s a very attractive style of football and a style that I play.
Have you seen any familiar faces at Chelsea?
There are a few players. I played with Tosin Adarabioyo at Manchester City. Cole Palmer was there too, but he was younger than me. Mainly the English lads who are familiar.
What are your memories of Stamford Bridge and of Chelsea?
Chelsea is an iconic club. My idols growing up were Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard. Now I have the opportunity to play for this club and it’s a great feeling.
What can Chelsea expect from you?
Hopefully lots of goals and assists. I am ready to bring some excitement to the Bridge. Hopefully it will all turn out well.
Can you tell us a little bit about your Champions League experience last season and what it was like reaching the final with Borussia Dortmund?
It was a nice feeling getting to the final. It is something I have always dreamt of. We were unlucky on the night, but the experience alone of playing in the final was a fantastic feeling.
Does this experience drive you to succeed?
That is exactly where I want to be. Playing in the best games at a top level. I’m motivated to carry on so I cannot wait. I want to be able to achieve all this with Chelsea.
