Law, Love and Betrayal episode 2: The mind of the possessor
In episode 2 of Law, Love and Betrayal, legal and personal tensions continue to heat up as the land claim case takes centre stage. Ayanda is less than thrilled when she’s tasked with helping Gugu, the firm’s new rising star, and the drama only intensifies from there.
James ignites a legal firestorm
James sets off a major conflict by siding with the mall developers over the Mokoena clan in the land claim battle. When the Mokoenas show up at G&A demanding answers, Gatsha steps in – his firm can’t represent both sides.
Gatsha’s shocking decision
Gatsha calls a status meeting to straighten things out and drops a bombshell: G&A will represent the Mokoenas, and Gugu will lead the case. Ayanda is furious!
Ayanda confronts Gatsha
Still reeling from the announcement, Ayanda confronts her father about hiring Gugu. Gatsha doesn’t back down and orders Ayanda to help make Gugu feel welcome at the firm.
Gugu digs into the case
Gugu begins building the Mokoena case, trying to prove the land has been in the clan for generations. But things quickly escalate between her and Ayanda, leading to a power struggle between the two lawyers.
Meet Trevor Williams
Enter Trevor Williams, the suave advocate assigned to assist on the case. Oh, and he’s also Ayanda’s ex-husband, making the dynamics even more complicated.
Ayanda and Gugu’s field trip
Ayanda and Gugu visit the disputed land in search of Mokoena family graves, hoping to use them as evidence of ownership. When a fence blocks their entry, tensions flare, especially when Ayanda learns the Mokoenas didn’t mention the fence – something they could’ve resolved with a court order.
A favour from an old friend
To speed things up, Ayanda and Gugu visit a judge who has a long history with Gatsha. They secure an interdict, gaining access to the graves, which are indeed marked. It’s a critical win for Gugu’s case.
A courtroom curveball
Just when things are looking up, the defendants drop a bombshell: the Mokoena chief sold the land in 1973 for R1 000, and the buyer was the founder of D&P Developers. The judge calls a recess, and the defendants offer a R2-million settlement. Gatsha instructs Gugu to take the deal, much to her frustration. The case is settled, and court is adjourned.
The ultimate betrayal
In a shocking twist, it’s revealed that the Mokoenas were after the money all along – not the land. And the mastermind behind this double-cross? None other than Gatsha Gumede himself. Who saw that coming?
