Mnakwethu: Man brings a disrespectful second wife into his household
With the rate at which things are escalating in every episode, Mnakwethu is starting to look more like a soap opera than a reality show. And on our side, we’re glad, and more than a little surprised, that we haven’t witnessed any physical altercations … yet.
A man in need of two wives in different provinces
In this week’s episode, we are introduced to a musician by the name of Dulas Magubane (33), who is married to Shila Dlamini. The two met during a family function in 2007, and as cheesy as this may sound, it was love at first sight for the couple.
Dulas explained that because of his career, he is constantly travelling, and because he plans on shipping his wife off back to his home village, he is in need of another woman who will attend to his needs while he works in Johannesburg. He also admitted that although he now wants a polygamous marriage, he was cheating on his wife.
“As a man, it sometimes does happen that we meet a woman, fall in love with her, marry her but still cheat on her.”
Dulas
As part of the show’s protocol, Dulas meets with Musa Mseleku, who is there to assist him in his request to take a second wife. Upon meeting Dulas, Musa said that he is not convinced that Dulas can handle polygamy.
Musa was concerned about Dulas as he considers him too young and somewhat selfish about the entire situation. We personally thought he was extremely selfish when he also made that snarky lobola comment.
The meeting of the second wife
Dulas met Zinhle Mhlongo (25) in 2014 at a music event, and they exchanged numbers and then started dating. Although Zinhle was not happy about Dulas’s marriage to Shila, she eventually accepted that he was already a family man.
Zinhle also made it clear that Shila has no choice but to accept her relationship with Dulas as she loves him just as much. And whether Shila approves or disapproves of their relationship, she is not leaving Dulas anytime soon.
The disrespect from Zinhle was just unbelievable. Even Musa was taken aback by her comments.
The confrontation
When the two ladies finally met, the tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife, especially after Shila made it clear that she had initially told Dulas that she never wanted to be in a polygamous marriage.
However, to our surprise, Shila agreed to Dulas taking Zinhle as his second wife. Not because she wanted to, but because she was raised to agree with everything a man says. We honestly picked up our jaws from the floor when Shila said this.
But we strongly believe she regretted her decision after ZInhle addressed her in a disrespectful manner just a few minutes after meeting her for the first time.
The confrontation began when the subject of Shila and Dulas’s kids came up. From then on, everything went south and Dulas sat there speechless as the ladies went back and forth.
After the argument, Dulas asked to leave the room. He clearly could not handle the heat and we can only wonder how he’ll deal with both ladies who are already butting heads so early into the polygamous arrangement.
