September 5 (2025)

Nominated for Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Oscars and Critics Choice Awards, and for Best Motion Picture - Drama at the Golden Globes, September 5 is set during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, where an American sports broadcasting team must adapt to live coverage of the Israeli athletes being held hostage by a terrorist group.

Based on real events, September 5 unveils the decisive moment that forever changed media coverage and continues to impact live news today.

John Magaro (Past Lives) stars alongside Emmy nominee Peter Sarsgaard (Dopesick), Berlin International Film Festival Shooting Star Leonie Benesch and Ben Chaplin (The Thin Red Line).

The film has a 92% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus says, “Capturing the compromises, dedication, and human fallibility of the newsroom, September 5 is a worthy chronicle of a tragic flashpoint in broadcast media history.”
